About the Role

The Data Scientist, Marketing Innovation role at Openai is a unique opportunity to drive business growth through data-driven decision making. As a key member of the Marketing Innovation pod, you will work closely with product and engineering teams to develop and implement cutting-edge marketing systems. Your expertise in data analysis, Excel, and statistical modeling will be essential in defining success metrics, designing measurement frameworks, and translating insights into actionable recommendations.

The Marketing Innovation pod is a cross-functional team responsible for building internal tools and agentic systems that transform the way Openai approaches marketing and customer service. As a Data Scientist in this team, you will have the opportunity to work on complex problems, collaborate with talented professionals, and contribute to the development of innovative marketing solutions.

Openai is committed to ensuring that general-purpose artificial intelligence benefits all of humanity. As a Data Scientist in the Marketing Innovation pod, you will play a critical role in helping the company achieve its mission by developing and implementing data-driven marketing strategies that drive business growth and customer engagement.

What You Will Do

  • Define success metrics for agentic marketing systems, including leading indicators that enable weekly iteration
  • Design measurement and experimentation frameworks for always-on systems across lifecycle automation, creative generation, targeting, and routing
  • Partner with product managers and engineers to instrument, evaluate, and monitor launches, ensuring that every meaningful release has observability and a credible read on incremental value
  • Translate behavioral and model-driven signals into decisions, including what to scale, where to intervene, and how to allocate human and compute attention across segments
  • Build repeatable decision loops that convert analysis into shipped changes, including pre-launch criteria, post-launch read, and next action
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement cutting-edge marketing systems
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in data science, marketing, and AI
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation of data models, metrics, and analysis
  • Present insights and recommendations to senior leadership and stakeholders

What We Are Looking For

  • 10+ years of experience in a quantitative role, ideally in a product-led company supporting B2B growth
  • Deep grounding in experimentation, causal inference, and applied statistics, with experience designing and interpreting tests in real-world environments
  • Strong technical fluency in SQL and Python, including working directly with messy, incomplete behavioral data to quantify impact
  • Proven track record of translating results into shipped decisions, including product, lifecycle, targeting, and routing
  • Strong business judgment and a bias toward action, with the ability to scope ambiguous problems, define success, and move quickly from insight to strategy
  • Excellent communication and partnership skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and present recommendations to senior leadership
  • Experience working with large datasets, data visualization tools, and machine learning algorithms

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with large language models and AI-assisted operations platforms
  • Experience working on operational automation and decision systems, including routing, prioritization, and optimization
  • Experience operating in early-stage or rapidly evolving environments, including building measurement and experimentation frameworks from scratch

Benefits and Perks

  • Competitive compensation package
  • Opportunity to work with a talented team of professionals in a dynamic and rapidly evolving industry
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Remote work stipend and flexible working hours
  • Professional development opportunities, including training and education programs
  • Access to cutting-edge technologies and tools
  • Equity and stock options
  • Paid time off and holidays
