Job Description

About the Role

DataRobot is seeking a skilled Database Engineer to join their Fleet Management team in Poland. As a Database Engineer, you will play a crucial role in managing the company's stateful infrastructure, ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of their critical database systems. You will be working closely with the application teams to implement database changes, review migrations, and optimize resource utilization in the shared Kubernetes infrastructure.

The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of Kubernetes and Helm, with experience managing large-scale, high-availability database systems in a SaaS environment. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining database infrastructure using StatefulSets, Operators, and Helm charts, as well as supporting and administering production database systems.

DataRobot's Fleet Management team is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the company's platform and applications, and the Database Engineer will be an integral part of this team. You will be working in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive the company's growth and success.

What You Will Do

  • Design, implement, and maintain database infrastructure using StatefulSets, Operators, and Helm charts
  • Own the deployment lifecycle for database clusters, managing version control for Helm charts and configuration templates
  • Support and administer production database systems, proactively instrumenting and monitoring performance, security, and availability
  • Perform zero-downtime upgrades and migrations for major and minor releases, developing and maintaining Helm hooks and custom scripts
  • Manage and optimize performance for backend data stores, ensuring data consistency and integrity
  • Develop and maintain automated backup and recovery processes for containerized databases
  • Resolve critical production issues related to container resource limits, network policies, and database-specific tuning/configuration
  • Partner with application teams to implement database changes, review migrations, and optimize resource utilization
  • Develop and maintain automation tools and scripts for simplifying Kubernetes management tasks

What We Are Looking For

  • 5 years of experience managing large-scale, high-availability database systems in a SaaS environment
  • Deep expertise in Kubernetes and Helm, with experience managing database deployments using Kubernetes and Helm
  • Strong proficiency in defining, troubleshooting, and maintaining Kubernetes resources such as StatefulSets and Pod Security Contexts
  • Experience with advanced PostgreSQL HA concepts and MongoDB sharding and replication
  • Experience managing database infrastructure on major cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • Highly proficient in scripting languages such as Bash and Python
  • Strong grasp of database performance tuning, scaling concepts, and optimizing SQL/Aggregation queries

Nice to Have

  • Experience with version control systems, configuration management tools, and IaaC such as Terraform and CloudFormation
  • Hands-on experience with container orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Knowledge of cloud-based database services such as Amazon RDS and Google Cloud SQL
