Job Description
About the Role
The Deputy Director, Partner Funding, is a critical role at Maliasili Initiatives, responsible for developing and implementing fundraising strategies to support the organization's partners. This role requires a deep understanding of the conservation sector, as well as experience in fundraising and partnership development. As a key member of the team, you'll work closely with the Director of Collective Action and Funding to build the fundraising capacity of Maliasili's partners and support them in securing long-term, flexible funding.The role is based remotely, with occasional travel required to meet with partners and attend workshops and gatherings. You'll be working with a dynamic and innovative organization that is committed to driving locally-led conservation impact in Africa. Maliasili Initiatives has a portfolio of over 55 partners working across 17 countries, and has helped generate over $27.3 million in funding for their work.
As a Deputy Director, Partner Funding, you'll be responsible for conducting strategic diagnoses of partners' fundraising challenges and developing effective, context-specific solutions. You'll provide direct, hands-on fundraising support to partners and portfolio managers, and design and lead clustered fundraising workshops and gatherings.
What You Will Do
- Conduct strategic diagnoses of partners' fundraising challenges and develop effective, context-specific solutions
- Provide direct, hands-on fundraising support to partners and portfolio managers
- Design and lead clustered fundraising workshops and gatherings to build skills and generate new funding opportunities
- Identify and broker new funding opportunities for partners
- Develop and implement fundraising strategies to support Maliasili's partners
- Build relationships with key stakeholders, including partners, funders, and other conservation organizations
- Stay up-to-date with trends and best practices in fundraising and partnership development
- Collaborate with the Director of Collective Action and Funding to build the fundraising capacity of Maliasili's partners
- Support the development of tools and guidance to help partners improve their fundraising skills
- Represent Maliasili Initiatives at external events and meetings, as required
What We Are Looking For
- At least 5 years of experience in fundraising and partnership development, preferably in the conservation sector
- Proven track record of success in securing funding for conservation projects
- Strong understanding of the conservation sector and the challenges faced by local conservation organizations
- Experience in developing and implementing fundraising strategies
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to travel occasionally, as required
- Fluency in English, with proficiency in other languages an advantage
Nice to Have
- Experience working with international donors and funders
- Knowledge of conservation finance and innovative funding models
- Familiarity with community-based conservation initiatives
- Experience in designing and delivering training programs
- Certification in fundraising or a related field
