## About the Role As a Design Verification Engineer at Openai, you will play a critical role in ensuring the functional correctness and robust design of the company's cutting-edge ML accelerators. You will be part of a cross-disciplinary team that is pushing the boundaries of AI-powered silicon, working closely with architecture, RTL, software, and systems teams to deliver reliable silicon at scale. The role entails verifying complex hardware systems, ranging from individual IP blocks to subsystems and full SoC, and defining verification plans based on architecture and microarchitecture specs. The design verification team at Openai is responsible for building and maintaining stimulus generators, checkers, monitors, and scoreboards to ensure high coverage and correctness. You will drive bug triage, root cause analysis, and work closely with design teams on resolution, contributing to regression infrastructure, coverage analysis, and closure for both block- and top-level environments. As a Design Verification Engineer, you will be part of a team that is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of AI capabilities while prioritizing safety and human needs. ## What You Will Do - Own the verification of one or more of: custom IP blocks, subsystems, or full-chip SoC-level functionality - Define verification plans based on architecture and microarchitecture specs - Develop constrained-random, directed, and system-level testbenches using SystemVerilog/UVM or equivalent methodologies - Build and maintain stimulus generators, checkers, monitors, and scoreboards to ensure high coverage and correctness - Drive bug triage, root cause analysis, and work closely with design teams on resolution - Contribute to regression infrastructure, coverage analysis, and closure for both block- and top-level environments - Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams, including architecture, RTL, software, and systems teams - Participate in design reviews, providing feedback on design and verification methodologies - Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in AI, hardware verification, and computer architecture - Participate in the development of custom design tools and methodologies that accelerate innovation and enable hardware optimized specifically for AI ## What We Are Looking For - BS/MS in EE/CE/CS or equivalent with 3+ years of experience in hardware verification - Proven success verifying complex IP or SoC designs in industry-standard flows - Proficient in SystemVerilog, UVM, and common simulation and debug tools - Strong knowledge of computer architecture concepts, memory and cache systems, coherency, interconnects, and/or ML compute primitives - Familiarity with performance modeling, formal verification, or emulation - Experience working in fast-paced, cross-disciplinary teams with a passion for building reliable hardware - Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with remote teams - Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex problems and develop creative solutions ## Nice to Have - Experience with AI-powered silicon development - Knowledge of machine learning algorithms and their implementation in hardware - Familiarity with cloud-based verification environments and methodologies - Experience with agile development methodologies and version control systems ## Benefits and Perks - Competitive salary and equity package - Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance - Flexible PTO policy, with a minimum of 4 weeks per year - Remote work stipend, with a one-time payment to support home office setup - Professional development opportunities, including conference attendance and training programs - Access to cutting-edge technologies and tools, including AI-powered silicon development platforms - Collaborative and dynamic work environment, with a team of experienced professionals
