Job Description

About the Role

The Developer Experience team at OpenAI is a new group dedicated to empowering developers to build on the OpenAI platform. As a Developer Experience Engineer, you will play a crucial role in engaging with the developer community, advocating for their needs, and ensuring they have the tools and resources required to unlock the full potential of AI in their projects.

The team partners closely with product, engineering, and research teams to drive the development of AI-powered APIs and tools. You will be working on cutting-edge models and technologies, such as GPT-4 Turbo, Vision, Whisper, and TTS, to create high-quality sample apps, demos, and technical content.

As a key member of the Developer Experience team, you will be responsible for shaping the future of developer engagement at OpenAI. You will collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure that developers have a seamless experience when integrating AI into their apps and products.

What You Will Do

  • Create and curate high-quality technical content, including tutorials, blog posts, videos, and code samples, to educate and inspire developers
  • Engage with the developer community, building strong relationships and fostering a vibrant ecosystem around OpenAI's technologies
  • Be a tireless champion for developers and their needs, gathering and organizing their feedback to inform the product roadmap
  • Build relationships with key developers and help nurture a community of developers on the OpenAI platform
  • Represent OpenAI at developer events and online forums, serving as a knowledgeable and approachable ambassador for the platform
  • Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and marketing teams to drive adoption and success of OpenAI's APIs and developer tools
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of all OpenAI's developer surfaces to provide a seamless experience for developers
  • Develop and maintain high-quality sample apps and demos to showcase the capabilities of OpenAI's APIs and tools
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including APIs, SDKs, and code samples

What We Are Looking For

  • Strong full-stack engineering background, with experience building with AI and LLMs
  • Proven track record of engaging with developers to help them find success with API-based products
  • Mandarin language skills as the role will also cover clients and communities that are Mandarin-speaking
  • Deep user empathy and an understanding of what's required for a product experience to be great
  • Creativity and passion for exploring new ways to connect with and empower developers
  • Pride in crafting delightful developer tools and high-quality demos and sample projects
  • A history of creating documentation, how-to content, and code that help developers find success with technical products
  • Ownership of problems end-to-end, and a willingness to pick up whatever knowledge is missing to get the job done
  • Team player with a collaborative mindset, able to work effectively across different teams and disciplines
