Job Description

About the Role

As a DevOps/Platform Engineering Lead at MAIA, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of our platform. This is a senior individual contributor role with full ownership, where you will take charge of our infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and observability stack. You will work closely with our engineers and founder to establish the standards that will govern how our infrastructure grows.

MAIA is an AI platform built for industrial companies, where precision and reliability matter. Our goal is to become the leading AI knowledge management platform for industrial companies in Europe. As the first person to own platform engineering entirely, you will have the autonomy to shape how MAIA operates for years to come.

What You Will Do

  • Own and evolve our infrastructure, including Hetzner, AWS, GCP, and Azure for selected services
  • Establish and maintain our CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions
  • Build out and mature our observability stack using Grafana, Loki, Sentry, and PostHog
  • Implement and own our security fundamentals, including IAM, secrets management, TLS, vulnerability scanning, and patch management
  • Drive the technical controls required for our ISO 27001 certification
  • Build the systems that produce auditable evidence continuously
  • Improve rollout strategies, versioning, and rollback procedures
  • Collaborate with our engineers to ensure seamless integration with our workflows
  • Continuously monitor and optimize our platform's performance and security

What We Are Looking For

  • Strong experience running production systems in a SaaS environment
  • Solid understanding of Linux systems and networking fundamentals, containers, and reverse proxies
  • Strong security fundamentals, including IAM and least privilege, secrets management, vulnerability scanning, and patching
  • Proven experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or equivalent), CI/CD pipelines, and observability tooling
  • Fluent in English, with German being a plus
  • Experience with PostgreSQL operations, including availability, backup and restore, and performance awareness
  • Strong ownership mentality, with the ability to take responsibility end-to-end
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Nice to Have

  • Experience with ISO 27001 implementation, especially technical controls
  • Experience with NixOS
  • Experience with self-hosted Supabase and Postgres-based platforms
  • Experience with SRE practices, including SLOs, error budgets, and incident review culture
  • Familiarity with multi-cloud usage patterns (Hetzner, AWS, Azure, GCP)
