Job Description

## About the Role The Director of Autonomy Perception is a critical role at May Mobility, responsible for leading the vision, strategy, and technical roadmap of the Autonomy Perception team. This team is at the heart of May Mobility's innovative Multi-Policy Decision Making (MPDM) technology, which enables autonomous vehicles to navigate complex environments. The Director will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Vehicle Engineering, Product, and Operations, to develop and deploy solutions to autonomy perception challenges. The Director of Autonomy Perception will report to the Sr. Director of Autonomy and will provide technical leadership to autonomy engineering managers and engineers. This role is ideal for a seasoned leader with a strong technical background in autonomy software and perception technologies. The Director of Autonomy Perception will play a key role in achieving this mission, driving innovation and advancing the state-of-the-art in autonomy perception. ## What You Will Do - Champion May Mobility's mission, vision, values, and company priorities to develop and execute autonomy strategy with fellow executives and engineering leaders - Work cross-functionally with Vehicle Engineering, Product, and Operations leaders to solve and deploy solutions to autonomy perception challenges - Deliver innovative and robust advances to May's perception technology, including measurable improvements to object detection, classification, tracking, and prediction - Ensure May's core perception technologies operate efficiently and effectively in commercial deployments - Maintain an understanding of related research fields, including machine learning, end-to-end learned systems, tracking systems, multi-sensor fusion, and behavior prediction - Lead design and specification of next-generation sensor suites to maximize May's perception system performance and optimize cost - Work with systems and hardware teams to support prototyping and evaluating future systems - Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to track autonomy performance - Identify key gaps and challenges in May's autonomy perception technology and construct a roadmap to solve them - Collaborate with other autonomy leaders to synchronize roadmaps and drive progress towards company goals - Provide technical leadership and guidance to autonomy engineering managers and engineers - Oversee the escalation of critical issues and opportunities within the autonomy team's leadership, driving clear recommendations to maximize team effectiveness ## What We Are Looking For - 10+ years of experience in a technical leadership role, preferably in autonomy software or a related field - Strong technical background in autonomy software and perception technologies, including machine learning, computer vision, and sensor fusion - Experience with sensor data processing, object detection, and tracking algorithms - Strong understanding of autonomous vehicle systems and the challenges associated with deploying autonomy at scale - Experience with agile development methodologies and version control systems (e.g. Git) - Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team of engineers and technical leaders - Experience with cloud-based development environments and DevOps practices - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field - Experience with autonomy software development and deployment - Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex technical problems and develop creative solutions ## Nice to Have - Experience with machine learning frameworks (e.g. TensorFlow, PyTorch) and deep learning techniques - Familiarity with cloud-based machine learning platforms (e.g. AWS SageMaker, Google Cloud AI Platform) - Experience with DevOps practices and tools (e.g. Jenkins, Docker) - Knowledge of safety-critical systems development and deployment - Experience with regulatory compliance and standards for autonomous vehicles ## Benefits and Perks - Competitive salary and benefits package - Opportunity to work on cutting-edge autonomy technology and contribute to the development of safe and efficient autonomous vehicles - Collaborative and dynamic work environment with a team of experienced engineers and technical leaders - Flexible working hours and remote work options - Professional development opportunities, including training and education programs - Access to the latest tools and technologies, including cloud-based development environments and machine learning platforms - Comprehensive health insurance and wellness programs - Generous paid time off and vacation policy
