Job Description

About the Role

The Director of Commercial Operations is a newly created position at the heart of Curaleaf International's commercial infrastructure. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for building the demand-led commercial infrastructure necessary for the business to scale. This includes developing the demand planning function, sales governance framework, and commercial processes that connect market intelligence to supply decisions. You will work closely alongside market Managing Directors to instill discipline and rigor, turning commercial ambition into an executable plan.

The role entails creating long-term pipeline visibility, establishing a commercial review cadence, and defining what good looks like for each market in terms of pipeline visibility and forecast accuracy. You will own the commercial demand signal, ensuring it is locked and signed off at the start of each planning cycle, and partner with the Group Demand & S&OP Manager and Finance team to ensure the commercial demand signal feeds cleanly into the S&OP process and monthly re-forecast.

Curaleaf International is one of Europe's largest vertically integrated medical cannabis businesses, operating across the UK, Germany, Poland, and Australia with EU GMP-certified production facilities in Portugal, Spain, and Canada. Revenue is growing rapidly, and the company is building the commercial infrastructure to match.

What You Will Do

  • Create a long-term pipeline visibility: developing tools, templates, and disciplines for a consolidated forward view of commercial performance
  • Establish the commercial review cadence: weekly market reviews where country heads present pipeline, wins/losses, and pricing issues against a consistent framework
  • Define what good looks like for each market in terms of pipeline visibility and forecast accuracy, then build the process to get there
  • Own the commercial demand signal: developing a SKU-level, market-by-market view of what the business needs to sell and when, grounded in real market intelligence
  • Partner with the Group Demand & S&OP Manager to ensure the commercial demand signal feeds cleanly into the S&OP process
  • Partner with Finance for the monthly re-forecast process, ensuring changes to the demand signal are governed and visible
  • Perform SKU-level market-by-market demand signal for smaller business entities
  • Conduct long-term portfolio planning, working with the US-based team for insights into market evolution and the regulatory team for potential industry changes
  • Create mid-high level long-term demand plans incorporating market analysis and portfolio planning for handover to GMs on a bi-annual basis

What We Are Looking For

  • 10+ years of experience in commercial operations, merchandising, demand planning, or commercial excellence
  • Background in FMCG, with direct experience in prescription, pharmacy, or clinical channels strongly preferred
  • Proven ability to design and implement sales governance frameworks and demand planning processes in a multi-market environment
  • Strong analytical capability: comfortable building SKU-level demand models, margin analyses, and commercial dashboards independently
  • Experience working alongside geo-based commercial teams
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Strong problem-solving and strategic thinking skills

Nice to Have

  • Experience in the cannabis or pharmaceutical industry
  • Knowledge of EU GMP regulations and standards
  • Familiarity with S&OP processes and systems
  • Certification in demand planning or supply chain management

Benefits and Perks

  • Competitive salary
  • Opportunity to work with one of Europe's largest vertically integrated medical cannabis businesses
  • Collaborative and dynamic work environment
  • Professional development and growth opportunities
  • Access to cutting-edge technology and systems
  • Flexible working arrangements, including remote work options
  • Comprehensive health and wellness programs
  • Generous paid time off and holidays
  • Employee recognition and reward programs

How to Stand Out

  • Develop a deep understanding of the cannabis industry and its regulatory environment to stand out in your application.
  • Showcase your analytical skills by preparing examples of how you've built demand models or improved sales governance in previous roles.
  • Be prepared to discuss how you handle ambiguity and rapid change in a dynamic market.
  • Highlight your experience working with cross-functional teams, including sales, marketing, and supply chain.
  • Prepare to discuss your approach to developing and implementing demand planning processes and sales governance frameworks.
  • Emphasize your ability to communicate complex commercial strategies to both internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Consider creating a portfolio that demonstrates your expertise in commercial operations, including any relevant certifications or training.
