About the Role

The Director of Communications at Wing will play a pivotal role in shaping the company's narrative as it expands its drone delivery services nationwide. This involves designing a holistic internal and external communications strategy that addresses the complex needs of various stakeholders, including media, local communities, regulators, partners, and employees. The successful candidate will be a seasoned communications expert with a deep understanding of the tech industry and its regulatory landscape.

As Wing enters a new phase of commercial maturity, the Director of Communications will be responsible for transforming the perception of drone delivery from a futuristic novelty to an everyday, trusted service. This requires a strategic approach that balances the needs of different stakeholders while maintaining the innovative edge of the company's services.

The Director of Communications will lead a high-performing communications team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence across internal, external, policy, and product disciplines. This role reports to the senior leadership team and will advise on thought leadership, crisis management, and executive communications.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and implement an integrated communications strategy to support Wing's expansion into complex metropolitan markets.
  • Normalize drone delivery for consumers, shaping future behavior without losing the innovative factor of the service.
  • Drive B2B and B2C communications to ensure partners recognize Wing as a viable delivery option.
  • Partner with Government and Affairs and Public Policy teams to navigate regulatory landscapes and community concerns.
  • Oversee comprehensive executive communications, thought leadership, internal communications, and crisis communications frameworks.
  • Distill complex autonomous technology into compelling, authentic stories that resonate with various audiences.
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing communications team.
  • Engage with federal aviation authorities, policymakers, and local municipal governments.
  • Manage reputational risk and build corporate narratives for a company undergoing rapid commercial scaling or regulatory scrutiny.
  • Ensure alignment of communications strategies with business objectives and regulatory requirements.

What We Are Looking For

  • 20+ years of experience in strategic communications, public relations, or corporate affairs, ideally within scaled environments within consumer brands.
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Policy, Business, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing reputational risk and building corporate narratives for a company undergoing rapid commercial scaling or regulatory scrutiny.
  • Proven track record of managing multifaceted communications teams across internal, external, product, and policy disciplines.
  • Exceptional executive presence and experience advising C-suite leadership on thought leadership and crisis management.
  • Strong understanding of the tech industry, particularly in areas related to drone technology and autonomous systems.
  • Experience with Excel and other communications management tools.
