About the Role

The Director of Community at ALX Africa is a critical role that entails building and scaling vibrant communities that bring people together around shared goals and opportunities. This involves leading strategies that connect learners, alumni, or professionals into meaningful networks that drive engagement and long-term impact. The ideal candidate understands that great communities are built through authentic relationships, not just events and programs.

As the Director of Community, you will be responsible for designing systems, frameworks, and experiences that enable communities to thrive across multiple regions and markets. You will be working closely with various stakeholders, including the leadership team, to ensure that community building is at the core of ALX Africa's mission.

ALX Africa is committed to unlocking the potential of Africa's digital future, and the Director of Community will play a pivotal role in achieving this mission. With hubs in 8 cities across Africa and counting, the company provides safe access to quality learning and a dedicated network of expert instructors.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and implement community building strategies that drive engagement and long-term impact
  • Lead the design of systems, frameworks, and experiences that enable communities to thrive across multiple regions and markets
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including learners, alumni, and professionals
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to ensure community building is at the core of ALX Africa's mission
  • Design and implement programs that connect learners, alumni, or professionals into meaningful networks
  • Develop and manage budgets for community building initiatives
  • Analyze data and metrics to measure the effectiveness of community building strategies
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in community building
  • Identify opportunities to leverage technology to enhance community engagement and participation

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in community building, preferably in a remote or digital context
  • Strong understanding of community building principles and practices
  • Experience in designing and implementing community building strategies that drive engagement and long-term impact
  • Excellent relationship building and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with digital tools and platforms for community building
  • Strong understanding of the African context and the digital landscape
  • Experience working with diverse stakeholders, including learners, alumni, and professionals

Nice to Have

  • Experience in designing and implementing community building programs for tech professionals
  • Knowledge of African languages and cultures
  • Experience working in a non-profit or social impact organization
  • Certification in community building or a related field
