About the Role

The Director of Infrastructure Finance at Cohere is a senior-level individual contributor role responsible for developing and executing comprehensive financial strategies for infrastructure investments. This role entails working closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and product, to optimize infrastructure cost structures and identify financial efficiency opportunities. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of cloud infrastructure financing models and economics.

As a key member of the finance team, the Director of Infrastructure Finance will play a critical role in shaping the company's infrastructure investment priorities and resource allocation. This role requires a unique blend of financial acumen, technical expertise, and collaboration skills.

The Director of Infrastructure Finance will report to a senior finance leader and will be responsible for managing a team of finance professionals.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and execute comprehensive financial strategies for infrastructure investments, including planning, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Optimize infrastructure cost structures and identify financial efficiency opportunities
  • Develop and maintain financial metrics and KPIs to track infrastructure performance
  • Lead financial aspects of infrastructure capacity planning and scaling initiatives
  • Make strategic recommendations on infrastructure investment priorities and resource allocation
  • Establish and maintain robust financial controls and governance frameworks for infrastructure
  • Oversee financial reporting, variance analysis, and performance metrics for infrastructure
  • Lead budgeting processes and track actual vs. planned infrastructure spending
  • Manage financial risks associated with infrastructure investments and operations

What We Are Looking For

  • 12+ years of progressive experience in finance, with at least 5 years specifically focused on infrastructure or cloud hardware finance
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field
  • MBA or CFA is highly preferred
  • Expert-level proficiency in financial modeling and the ability to translate technical engineering roadmaps into financial outcomes
  • Deep understanding of cloud infrastructure financing models and economics
  • Knowledge of technology infrastructure trends and cost optimization strategies
  • Experience with financial systems and ERP platforms (SAP, Oracle, etc.)
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Nice to Have

  • Preferred experience at a hyperscaler (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Meta, Microsoft, or Oracle) or similar large-scale technology infrastructure companies
  • Ability to think 3+ years ahead regarding technological shifts and financial implications
  • Proven track record of influencing senior technical leaders and 'speaking the language' of both software engineers and accountants
