About the Role
The Director of Product Management for Financial Platforms at Affirm is a pivotal role, overseeing the development and scaling of critical financial systems. This includes leading and growing a high-performing product management team focused on Loans Lifecycle and Money Movement. The successful candidate will be at the forefront of defining the multi-year product strategy for Affirm's foundational loan systems and global money movement infrastructure, ensuring these systems are scalable, compliant, and capable of supporting rapid product innovation.Affirm's mission to make credit more honest and friendly has positioned it as a leader in the fintech space. This role is crucial in maintaining and expanding that leadership, particularly in navigating the complexities of financial regulations and technological advancements. The Director will work closely with various teams, including Engineering, Accounting, Treasury, Capital Markets, Legal, Compliance, and Client Success, to drive cross-functional alignment and ensure that product decisions are informed by a deep understanding of both business and technical requirements.
The role requires a seasoned product leader who thrives at the intersection of financial systems, platform engineering, and organizational scale. The ability to set and execute long-term platform strategy in ambiguous and fast-moving environments is essential. This leader will serve as the domain authority, guiding product, engineering, and business partners on tradeoffs, best practices, and platform decisions related to loan lifecycle mechanics, payment rails, settlement flows, and institutional transfers.
What You Will Do
- Lead and grow a team of 6–10 product managers, including people managers, focusing on development paths and cultivating a culture of ownership, rigor, and candor.
- Define the multi-year product strategy for Affirm's foundational loan systems and global money movement infrastructure, translating this vision into clear roadmaps and decisions for teams to execute.
- Serve as the executive-level subject matter expert on loan lifecycle mechanics, payment rails, settlement flows, and institutional transfers, guiding partners on best practices and tradeoffs.
- Drive cross-functional alignment at scale, partnering closely with Engineering, Accounting, Treasury, Capital Markets, Legal, Compliance, and Client Success teams to navigate complexity and build trust.
- Enable platform scalability and international expansion by architecting strategies that simplify domain boundaries and standardize loan behaviors across products and markets.
- Measure and improve platform health by defining success metrics such as settlement success rates, reconciliation coverage, exception volumes, and time-to-resolution, holding teams accountable to these standards.
- Influence up and across the organization by presenting strategy, tradeoffs, and priorities to senior leadership and shaping organizational thinking on investment and deprioritization.
What We Are Looking For
- 10+ years of product management experience, with at least 3–5 years managing and developing PM teams, including people managers.
- Deep experience in loans or lending systems, with a strong understanding of loan lifecycle mechanics, platform architecture for loan servicing, and the compliance and operational requirements that come with it.
- Meaningful experience in money movement, payments infrastructure, or financial operations, with fluency in payment rails, settlement flows, cross-border transfers, and the reliability and accuracy standards these systems demand.
- Experience in fintech, financial services, or banking, with familiarity with BNPL, platform products, or backend infrastructure strongly preferred; capital markets background is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to set and execute long-term platform strategy in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
- Strong technical fluency, with comfort in diving into data models and API discussions with engineers and holding informed opinions.
- Proficiency in driving cross-functional alignment and building trust through clear communication and a strong delivery track record.
