About the Role

The Director of Technology at Commercial Fire Protection is a hands-on leadership role that entails leading day-to-day technology operations across infrastructure, applications, IT operations, and technical vendors. This leader will play a crucial role in scaling the company's technology function during a period of significant growth. The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable driving strategy, managing budgets, and stepping into the details when needed.

As a key operating partner to the VP of Technology, the Director of Technology will help transform technology into a scalable business capability across both infrastructure and applications. This role is designed for a growing business that is building a stronger technology foundation to support meaningful expansion over the next several years.

The Director of Technology will work closely with operations, finance, and executive leadership to prioritize initiatives that improve visibility, efficiency, and growth. This role requires a strong operational mindset with the ability to execute in a lean environment without relying on a large internal team.

What You Will Do

  • Lead day-to-day technology operations across infrastructure, business systems, internal IT, and application delivery
  • Oversee both infrastructure and applications, ensuring stability, scalability, security, and business alignment
  • Manage technology budgets across operating expenses and capital expenditures, including software, cloud, infrastructure, telecom, and technical services
  • Drive vendor management, renewal planning, cost optimization, and accountability for third-party partners and contractors
  • Build practical operating discipline for service delivery, change management, escalation, documentation, and release coordination
  • Partner with operations, finance, and executive leadership to prioritize initiatives that improve visibility, efficiency, and growth
  • Support systems integration, acquired business onboarding, and scaling efforts as the company grows
  • Develop KPIs, reporting rhythms, and execution follow-through for the technology function
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize technology initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards

What We Are Looking For

  • 8+ years of progressive technology leadership experience
  • Experience leading both infrastructure and applications or business systems in a growing business
  • Strong operational mindset with the ability to execute in a lean environment without relying on a large internal team
  • Experience managing budgets, vendors, technical roadmaps, and cross-functional priorities
  • Ability to communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders and translate technical work into business value
  • Comfort balancing strategic planning with hands-on execution
  • Experience in multi-site, field service, industrial, facilities, compliance, construction, or similarly operational businesses
  • Experience in a PE-backed, high-growth, or acquisition-oriented environment
  • Track record of improving reliability, delivery discipline, and scale in a small or mid-sized organization

  • Experience leading internal staff as well as external vendors, contractors, or managed service partners
  • Familiarity with cloud-based technologies and infrastructure
  • Certification in IT service management or related field
