About the Role

The Director of Software Engineering will lead the Card Platform and Experiences team at Affirm, a fintech company revolutionizing the credit industry. As a key member of the engineering leadership team, you will be responsible for setting the vision for the Card Experiences and Platform team and hiring world-class full-stack engineers to execute on that vision. Your expertise will be crucial in driving the company's success and growth.

The Card Platform and Experiences team plays a vital role in delivering honest financial products that improve lives. As the leader of this team, you will work closely with product and business leadership to drive key efforts to build card-related capabilities and scale the business. You will also balance product expansion efforts with platform investments, ensuring the platform can handle high scale and a wide range of use cases.

What You Will Do

  • Set the vision for the Card Experiences and Platform team and hire world-class full-stack engineers to execute on that vision
  • Take ownership of core engineering and business outcomes across established verticals, including Card experiences, Card services Platform, and Card Loan platform
  • Collaborate with product and business leadership to drive key efforts to build card-related capabilities and scale the business
  • Balance product expansion efforts with platform investments, ensuring the platform can handle high scale and a wide range of use cases
  • Run a robust development lifecycle, establishing a culture of operational excellence while experimenting and failing fast
  • Work with cross-functional partners outside of engineering, including product, analytics, risk, servicing, legal, and compliance
  • Drive key outcomes that drive the company's success, including revenue growth and customer acquisition
  • Develop and execute strategies to improve the overall quality and reliability of the card platform
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies, applying this knowledge to improve the card platform and experiences

What We Are Looking For

  • 15+ years of relevant experience in software engineering, with a focus on full-stack development and leadership
  • Experience leading full-stack teams and backend teams, with a proven track record of driving key outcomes
  • Successful track record of driving key outcomes that drive the company's success, including revenue growth and customer acquisition
  • Comfortable partnering across disciplines and influencing across a wide variety of leaders
  • Experience hiring, growing, and retaining talent, with a focus on building high-performing teams
  • Card-related domain knowledge, with experience working on credit/debit card-related areas, including accounting, ledgering, open/closed loops, and more
  • Strong technical skills, including proficiency in programming languages and software development methodologies
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in the fintech industry, with a focus on consumer-facing products and services
  • Knowledge of cloud-based technologies, including AWS or Azure
  • Experience with agile development methodologies, including Scrum or Kanban
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, including continuous integration and continuous deployment
