Director, Software Engineering (Card Platform)

About the Role

As a leader in the engineering team, the Director will work closely with product and business leadership to drive key efforts to build card-related capabilities and grow the business. This will involve hiring and growing a team of world-class full-stack engineers, establishing a culture of operational excellence, and experimenting and failing fast.

The Director will also be responsible for balancing product expansion efforts with platform investments, scaling the platform to handle high-scale and eclectic use cases. This will require strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to influence across a wide variety of leaders.

What You Will Do

• Set the vision for the Card Experiences and Platform team at Affirm
• Hire world-class full-stack engineers to execute on that vision
• Take ownership of core engineering and business outcomes across established verticals – Card experiences, Card services Platform, and Card Loan platform
• Work closely with product and business leadership to drive key efforts to build card-related capabilities and grow the business
• Balance product expansion efforts with platform investments and scale the platform to handle high-scale and eclectic use cases
• Run a robust development lifecycle, establishing a culture of operational excellence while experimenting and failing fast
• Work with a wide variety of cross-functional partners outside of engineering, including product, analytics, risk, servicing, legal, and compliance
• Drive key outcomes that drive the company's success
• Partner across disciplines and influence across a wide variety of leaders

What We Are Looking For

• 15+ years of relevant experience in software engineering
• Experience leading full-stack teams and backend teams
• Successful track record driving key outcomes that drive the company's success
• Comfortable partnering across disciplines and influencing across a wide variety of leaders
• Experience hiring, growing, and retaining talent
• Card-related domain knowledge (experience working on credit/debit card/card-related areas including accounting, ledgering, open/closed loops, and more)
• Strong technical expertise and excellent communication skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities

Nice to Have

• Experience working in the fintech industry
• Knowledge of cloud-based platforms and technologies
• Experience with agile development methodologies
• Certification in software engineering or a related field
