About the Role
The Director, Software Engineering (Card Platform) will lead the Card Platform and Experiences team at Affirm, driving key engineering outcomes and setting the vision for the team. This is a critical role that will have a significant impact on the company's mission to make credit more honest and friendly. The successful candidate will have a strong background in software engineering and experience leading full-stack teams.As a leader in the engineering team, the Director will work closely with product and business leadership to drive key efforts to build card-related capabilities and grow the business. This will involve hiring and growing a team of world-class full-stack engineers, establishing a culture of operational excellence, and experimenting and failing fast.
The Director will also be responsible for balancing product expansion efforts with platform investments, scaling the platform to handle high-scale and eclectic use cases. This will require strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to influence across a wide variety of leaders.
What You Will Do
- Set the vision for the Card Experiences and Platform team at Affirm
- Hire world-class full-stack engineers to execute on that vision
- Take ownership of core engineering and business outcomes across established verticals – Card experiences, Card services Platform, and Card Loan platform
- Work closely with product and business leadership to drive key efforts to build card-related capabilities and grow the business
- Balance product expansion efforts with platform investments and scale the platform to handle high-scale and eclectic use cases
- Run a robust development lifecycle, establishing a culture of operational excellence while experimenting and failing fast
- Work with a wide variety of cross-functional partners outside of engineering, including product, analytics, risk, servicing, legal, and compliance
- Drive key outcomes that drive the company's success
- Partner across disciplines and influence across a wide variety of leaders
What We Are Looking For
- 15+ years of relevant experience in software engineering
- Experience leading full-stack teams and backend teams
- Successful track record driving key outcomes that drive the company's success
- Comfortable partnering across disciplines and influencing across a wide variety of leaders
- Experience hiring, growing, and retaining talent
- Card-related domain knowledge (experience working on credit/debit card/card-related areas including accounting, ledgering, open/closed loops, and more)
- Strong technical expertise and excellent communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
Nice to Have
- Experience working in the fintech industry
- Knowledge of cloud-based platforms and technologies
- Experience with agile development methodologies
- Certification in software engineering or a related field
