About the Role
The Disability Case Manager plays a critical role in TELUS Health's Absence and Disability Management business, overseeing the administration of FMLA, State, and company-specific leaves. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for managing and processing leave requests, analyzing medical certifications, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Your expertise will help employees navigate the complexities of leave management, enabling them to focus on their health and well-being. The Disability Case Manager will work closely with various stakeholders, including employees, managers, and HR representatives, to provide support and guidance throughout the leave management process.The role is part of TELUS Health's broader mission to empower individuals to live their healthiest lives. As a Disability Case Manager, you will be contributing to this mission by ensuring that employees receive the support they need to manage their leaves and return to work successfully.
What You Will Do
- Manage and process FMLA, State, and company-specific leaves, including military leaves and STD claims
- Conduct case assessments, contacting employees and their managers/HR by telephone or email to explain the leave management process and gather information
- Develop and document an understanding of the situation and the factors supporting or inhibiting a successful return to work for the employee
- Review all relevant information and consult with appropriate resources, such as nurse consultants, health professionals, and supervisory teams, to confirm decision recommendations on FMLA, State, and company-specific leaves and STD cases
- Analyze FMLA medical certifications and other medical documentation to ensure claim determination adheres to regulatory compliance timeframes
- Inform STD claimants of any documentation needed to process a claim, timeframe requirements, and claim status
- Collaborate with stakeholders to implement strategies to address barriers to a successful and timely return to work
- Ensure ongoing claim management is within Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
- Provide clear and concise communication to clients and claimants on all aspects of the claims process
- Stay up-to-date with changing regulations, laws, and industry trends to maintain expertise and ensure compliance
What We Are Looking For
- 2+ years of experience in disability case management, leave administration, or a related field
- Strong knowledge of FMLA, State, and company-specific leave regulations
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with multiple priorities and deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Experience with Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with employees, managers, and HR representatives
Nice to Have
- Experience with absence and disability management software
- Certification in case management, such as a Certified Case Manager (CCM) designation
- Knowledge of health and wellness principles and practices
- Experience working in a remote or virtual team environment
