About the Role

The Editor Paginator role at The Canadian Press is a temporary part-time position that requires a unique blend of editing, designing, and proofreading skills. The team is committed to delivering high-quality content, and the Editor Paginator will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and effectiveness of print newspaper pages.

What You Will Do

  • Copy edit and design print newspaper pages to meet daily deadlines
  • Write strong and accurate headlines and other display copy
  • Proofread content for spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure consistency and quality in all aspects of the newspaper
  • Apply news judgment to select and prioritize stories
  • Work closely with designers to create visually appealing pages
  • Meet deadlines and work well under pressure
  • Stay up-to-date with current events and news stories
  • Participate in editorial meetings to discuss content and direction
  • Contribute to the development of style guides and editorial standards

What We Are Looking For

  • Solid experience in copy editing, designing, and proofreading print newspaper pages
  • Strong news judgment and attention to detail
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in Excel and other productivity software
  • Background in journalism or a related field
  • Experience editing sports-related content is an asset
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to work with clients
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
