About the Role

The Education Mentor role at SENse Learning is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people who have complex additional needs. As an Education Mentor, you will work closely with students in their homes and in community settings, providing one-to-one support and mentoring. Your role will be to develop strong, positive relationships with these students, who may have faced significant challenges in previous education settings. You will be part of a team that is dedicated to ensuring no student is left behind, and you will work to provide bespoke and holistic learning packages that cater to the individual needs of each student.

As an Education Mentor, you will be working in a variety of settings, including students' homes and community locations, and you will be responsible for delivering creative and interest-based activities that support the development of life skills, confidence, and independence.

What You Will Do

  • Provide one-to-one mentoring and learning support for students with complex additional needs
  • Develop strong, positive relationships with students and their families
  • Deliver creative and interest-based activities that support the development of life skills, confidence, and independence
  • Use trauma-informed approaches and flexible strategies to support a wide range of additional needs
  • Provide feedback and reflections to track progress and adapt support where needed
  • Work in students' homes and community settings, agreeing session times with parents, carers, or schools
  • Support the development of emotional regulation and implement strategies to model and encourage this
  • Collaborate with other professionals to ensure a holistic approach to supporting students
  • Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and development
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and other professionals to ensure a cohesive approach to support

What We Are Looking For

  • At least 2 years of experience working with children or young people with complex additional needs
  • Background in support work, learning support, teaching assistance, youth work, or other relevant care or education backgrounds
  • Understanding of how to work in a child-centred, holistic way
  • Ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing circumstances
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one)
  • 2+ professional references
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and creating a safe learning environment
  • Experience of working with students with a range of additional needs, including ASC, ADHD, SEMH, EBSA, trauma, PDA, and mental health
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with students and their families

Nice to Have

  • Experience of working in Alternative Provision or similar settings
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed approaches and practices
  • Experience of using creative and interest-based activities to support learning
  • Qualifications in education, social care, or a related field
  • Experience of working with students who have been excluded or disengaged from traditional education
