About the Role
The Education Technology Consultant role at mercor is a unique opportunity to leverage your expertise in digital learning solutions to drive innovation in AI research. As a consultant, you will work closely with AI research labs to design and develop realistic digital workspaces that simulate real-world educational environments. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include collaborating with cross-functional teams to design and evaluate ed-tech workflows, developing product specifications, and creating assessment rubrics.The role requires a deep understanding of learning management systems, educational product management, and instructional design. You will be working with a talented team of professionals who are passionate about shaping the future of education through technology. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ed-tech and a proven track record of designing and implementing effective digital learning solutions.
What You Will Do
- Design and develop realistic digital workspaces that simulate real-world educational environments
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and evaluate ed-tech workflows
- Develop product specifications and create assessment rubrics
- Create multi-step tasks grounded in real workflows to challenge AI agents
- Represent platforms like Google Classroom, PowerSchool, and Google Forms
- Work asynchronously with research teams to refine task designs and evaluation criteria
- Contribute to frontier AI research and benchmarking
- Design and develop PD materials and email threads
- Navigate multiple apps, files, and stakeholders to challenge AI agents meaningfully
- Collaborate with other education-technology experts to design the environment and shape task scope
- Review scenarios for realism and rigor
What We Are Looking For
- 3+ years of full-time experience at a Fortune 500 ed-tech company, R1 university, or major K-12 district/state-level education agency
- Background in LMS administration, educational product management, learning engineering, instructional design, learning analytics, assessment design, or district-level ed-tech leadership
- Compliance with student-data regulations (FERPA, COPPA) and accessibility (WCAG, Section 508)
- Day-to-day use of Google Classroom, PowerSchool, Infinite Campus, and Google Forms
- Strong analytical thinking and writing skills
- Ability to translate ed-tech workflows into structured task specs
- Experience with ed-tech platforms and tools
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Nice to Have
- Experience with AI-powered learning platforms
- Knowledge of machine learning algorithms and natural language processing
- Familiarity with data analytics and visualization tools
- Certification in instructional design or educational technology
- Experience with project management tools and methodologies
