About the Role
The Embedded Hardware Systems Engineer role at dormakaba is a unique opportunity to work on the development, debugging, and sustaining of embedded firmware modules for access control products. As a key member of the team, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to support new product introduction transitions, documentation updates, and end-to-end system validation activities. Your expertise in embedded C/C++ development, schematics, and PCB design will be essential in driving the success of our access control solutions.The role is based in Southern California, with the option to work remotely from either the Los Angeles or San Diego area. As a remote employee, you will be expected to maintain a high level of productivity, communicate effectively with your team, and prioritize your tasks to meet deadlines.

What You Will Do
- Develop, debug, and sustain embedded firmware modules for access control products
- Support hardware bring-up, PCB validation, and debugging for new hardware revisions
- Collaborate with external design partners on design updates and hardware integration activities
- Conduct hardware validation and system-level testing using lab instrumentation and debugging tools
- Assist in test fixture development and production validation
- Partner with cross-functional teams to support new product introduction transitions, documentation updates, and end-to-end system validation activities
- Develop and maintain technical documentation for firmware and hardware development
- Collaborate with the quality assurance team to identify and resolve technical issues
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in access control and embedded systems
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field
- 3+ years of experience in embedded hardware engineering
- Strong proficiency in embedded C/C++ development with hands-on experience in firmware development, debugging, and sustaining engineering
- Experience supporting hardware integration activities, including PCB bring-up, hardware validation, and system-level debugging
- Working knowledge of schematics and PCB design principles
- Familiarity with RF technologies and access control communication protocols, such as NFC and BLE
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
Nice to Have
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in embedded hardware engineering
- Exposure to Altium Designer or similar PCB design and layout tools
- Familiarity with RTOS environments such as ThreadX, FreeRTOS, or Zephyr
