About the Role

The Energy Analyst role at Remote VA is a part-time opportunity for a skilled professional to work on energy audits and HVAC analysis for residential and commercial buildings. As an Energy Analyst, you will play a crucial role in quantifying energy savings, developing accurate reports, and supporting submissions for utility and state energy efficiency incentive programs. Your work will have a direct impact on the environment and the bottom line of companies, making this a highly rewarding role.

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in energy efficiency analysis, HVAC systems, and building performance modeling. You will work closely with the engineering and project management teams to verify assumptions and ensure report accuracy. What You Will Do

  • Conduct energy audits and HVAC analysis for residential and commercial buildings
  • Collect and validate field data to establish accurate energy baselines
  • Build baseline vs. proposed energy models to quantify savings (kWh, therms, MMBtu)
  • Develop technical reports for incentive program submissions
  • Collaborate with engineering and project management teams to verify assumptions and ensure report accuracy
  • Perform detailed analysis of energy usage patterns and identify opportunities for energy efficiency improvements
  • Develop and maintain databases to track energy usage and savings
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and developments in energy efficiency and HVAC systems
  • Participate in meetings with clients and stakeholders to discuss energy efficiency projects and results
  • Provide recommendations for energy efficiency improvements and cost savings

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a related field
  • At least 2 years of experience in energy auditing, HVAC analysis, or building performance modeling
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, load calculations, and energy codes
  • Proficiency with Excel and energy modeling software (e.g., eQUEST, EnergyPlus, OpenStudio, or similar)
  • Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a global team
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience with utility incentive submission portals (preferred)
  • Familiarity with energy efficiency incentive programs and policies

Nice to Have

  • Experience with data visualization tools and techniques
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python or R
  • Familiarity with machine learning algorithms and statistical modeling
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms and tools
