About the Role
The Takeoff Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth execution of construction projects by facilitating the flow of information between customers and service providers. This involves translating customer requirements into clear pre-construction notes and takeoff outputs, managing job status and revisions, and maintaining customer account setup and ongoing configuration. The successful candidate will be highly organized, with strong customer service and stakeholder management skills, and the ability to interpret construction documentation.As part of the BlueLinx team, the Takeoff Specialist will work closely with customers, service providers, and internal stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate delivery of takeoff outputs. This will involve coordinating change management for active jobs, tracking revisions, and communicating updates to all stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of construction operations, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
What You Will Do
- Facilitate the daily flow of information between customers and service providers by triaging requests, clarifying scope, and ensuring complete inputs for takeoffs and pre-construction deliverables.
- Manage customer requirements and expectations at both a general and job-specific level, including pre-construction notes, takeoff outputs, job status updates, and revision requests.
- Coordinate change management for active jobs by tracking revisions, confirming impacts to scope and schedule, and communicating updates to all stakeholders.
- Manage the customer setup process and ongoing account maintenance, including intake of required information, system/profile configuration, updates to standards, and documentation of customer-specific preferences.
- Interpret construction documentation and translate requirements into clear pre-construction notes and takeoff-ready inputs (plans, scopes, specifications).
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of customer interactions, job status, and takeoff outputs.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure consistent execution and resolve issues quickly.
- Stay up-to-date with industry developments and best practices in takeoff and pre-construction services.

- Proficiency with common business systems and job tracking tools (CRM, ticketing, spreadsheets).
- Comfortable maintaining customer account data and standards.
- Detail-oriented with strong written documentation skills, ensuring complete handoffs and consistent customer-specific requirements.
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Relevant experience in estimating, takeoffs, or construction operations may be considered in lieu of a degree.
