Job Description

About the Role

The Engineering Manager, AI Engineering: Workflow Catalog, plays a critical role in guiding the team responsible for building Gitlab's AI catalog. This catalog enables customers and internal teams to create, share, version, and govern AI agents and workflows across Gitlab. The successful candidate will report through engineering leadership and manage a team of 9 engineers, focusing on delivering systems that let AI agents run at scale with the right controls in place.

The role involves working closely with product and UX counterparts to define requirements and deliver AI features that address customer needs and improve adoption. The Engineering Manager will also participate in technical design discussions and contribute engineering judgment to build scalable, reliable systems that support AI agents running at scale.

What You Will Do

  • Guide a distributed team of frontend, backend, and AI engineers working on the Workflow Catalog to deliver roadmap commitments on schedule.
  • Coach engineers through feedback, enablement, and clear expectations to improve performance, growth, and retention across the team.
  • Work with product and UX counterparts to define requirements and deliver AI features that address customer needs and improve adoption.
  • Participate in technical design discussions and contribute engineering judgment to build scalable, reliable systems that support AI agents running at scale.
  • Remove blockers, create clarity, and help the team maintain steady delivery in a fast-moving environment.
  • Coordinate execution across planning, development, and delivery to improve predictability and quality.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure seamless integration of AI agents and workflows.
  • Develop and maintain technical roadmaps and strategies for the Workflow Catalog.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in AI and workflow management.

What We Are Looking For

  • Proven experience in managing teams of engineers, preferably in an AI or related field.
  • Strong technical background in AI, software development, or a related field.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to coach and mentor engineers.
  • Experience with workflow management and catalog development.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and version control systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex technical issues and develop creative solutions.
  • Experience with Adjust and Excel, or similar tools.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with cloud-based technologies and containerization.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and tools.
  • Knowledge of UX design principles and human-centered development approaches.
  • Experience with machine learning or natural language processing.
