About the Role
The Engineering Manager, Bill Pay, will play a pivotal role in leading Float's newly formed Bill Pay team. This team is focused on delivering exceptional customer-facing experiences for bill pay and accounts payable, ensuring seamless and efficient financial operations for Canadian businesses. As a key member of the payments experience domain, the successful candidate will be responsible for guiding the team towards consistent delivery, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.The role is situated within a dynamic and growing organization, with a strong product counterpart bringing deep expertise in accounts payable. The Bill Pay team already consists of three engineers, with plans for expansion, providing a solid foundation for the Engineering Manager to build upon. The position requires a seasoned leader who can balance short-term product delivery with long-term strategic planning, ensuring the team's efforts align with Float's overall mission and goals.

What You Will Do
- Lead the Bill Pay engineering team in delivering high-quality products and features, focusing on customer experience and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate closely with the product team to establish credible quarterly commitments and ensure strong operational rigor in achieving these goals.
- Develop and implement strategies to balance near-term product delivery with the remediation of legacy technical debt and under-the-hood improvements.
- Own the observability, monitoring, and operational follow-through for the systems and experiences under the team's responsibility.
- Foster a culture of clarity, feedback, standards, and development within the team, promoting healthy execution patterns and sustainable performance expectations.
- Act as a strong counterpart to stakeholders, pushing for necessary changes and communicating effectively to ensure alignment and support.
- Drive team effectiveness through continuous improvement, leveraging tools, processes, and best practices to enhance productivity and quality.
- Engage in people management and development, ensuring each team member has a clear growth path and the support needed to excel in their role.

What We Are Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on leadership and management of engineering teams.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Experience with Agile development methodologies and version control systems.

- Experience with cloud-based technologies and microservices architecture is a plus.
