## About the Role The Engineering Manager, Growth at Gitlab will be responsible for building and enabling a high-performing team that drives user growth through experimentation and product improvements. This role is critical to the company's mission, as it focuses on creating measurable self-serve loops that link acquisition, activation, engagement, retention, and monetization. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering management, with experience in driving growth through data-informed decision making. The Engineering Manager, Growth will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Product, Design, Data, and Engineering stakeholders, to translate business goals and user journey insights into product improvements. This role requires a strong understanding of AI-native experimentation and its application in driving user growth. Gitlab's growth team works in an agile and asynchronous way, with a focus on running experiments on GitLab.com, improving onboarding and discoverability, and streamlining the paths that connect users to existing product value. The Engineering Manager, Growth will be responsible for guiding the team's technical direction, ensuring that experiments and product changes are built carefully, measured well, and aligned with long-term product ownership. ## What You Will Do - Hire, guide, and enable a high-performing Growth engineering team, creating an environment where team members can do their best work and deliver strong results.

  • Partner closely with Product Managers, Product Designers, Data counterparts, and other Engineering Managers to drive growth through experimentation and product improvements.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive growth strategy that aligns with the company's overall mission and goals.
  • Foster a culture that challenges the status quo and leverages AI-native experimentation to find innovative solutions for users.
  • Guide architecture and implementation discussions, helping the team navigate tradeoffs and ensuring that experiments and product changes are built carefully and measured well.
  • Ensure that the team works effectively with counterpart groups, smoothly handing off or scaling successful work where ongoing ownership belongs elsewhere.
  • Collaborate with the data team to develop and track key metrics that inform growth decisions.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies, applying this knowledge to drive growth and innovation.
  • Develop and manage the team's budget, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to drive growth.
  • Coordinate with the product team to ensure that growth initiatives are aligned with the company's overall product roadmap.
## What We Are Looking For - 5+ years of experience in engineering management, with a focus on growth and product development.
  • Strong background in computer science, with experience in software development and engineering.
  • Experience with AI-native experimentation and its application in driving user growth.
