About the Role
The Engineering Manager position at Tilt is a high-impact role that requires a unique blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and business acumen. As the leader of the NIRA team, you will be responsible for owning and executing the engineering roadmap, raising the bar on engineering practices, and driving technical decisions that balance speed, quality, and scalability. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Product, Data Science, Credit, and Marketing, to build, scale, and improve a fast-growing business.The NIRA team is at the forefront of Tilt's efforts to expand access to fair credit, and as the Engineering Manager, you will play a critical role in shaping the company's engineering strategy and direction. You will be responsible for leading and growing a high-performing team of engineers, driving technical decisions, and partnering with other teams to deliver meaningful business outcomes.
What You Will Do
- Own and execute the engineering roadmap across NIRA
- Raise the bar on engineering practices, including CI/CD, testing, reliability, and observability
- Lead and grow a high-performing team of engineers
- Drive technical decisions that balance speed, quality, and scalability
- Partner cross-functionally with Product, Data Science, Credit, and Marketing to deliver meaningful business outcomes
- Build, scale, and improve a fast-growing business
- Develop and implement strategies to improve engineering standards and delivery
- Collaborate with other teams to identify and prioritize engineering projects
- Manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
- Ensure the quality and reliability of engineering deliverables
What We Are Looking For
- 7+ years of experience in engineering, with 3+ years in management
- Experience leading teams in startup or scaling environments
- Strong track record of improving engineering standards and delivery
- Comfortable operating across product, infrastructure, and data
- Clear communicator with a bias for action
- Experience with Excel and other engineering tools
- Strong leadership and management skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Nice to Have
- Experience with machine learning-powered credit models
- Knowledge of mobile-first products and fintech
- Experience working in a remote or virtual-first team
- Familiarity with agile development methodologies
