About the Role
The Engineering Manager, Platform at Airbyte will lead a team of talented engineers responsible for the infrastructure, tooling, and engineering systems that power Airbyte Cloud, Airbyte Flex, and Airbyte Agents. This is a high-impact role that requires a unique blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and strategic thinking. The successful candidate will be responsible for shaping the roadmap for Airbyte's platform, driving adoption of AI-powered workflows, and ensuring the reliability and operational health of Airbyte's production systems.As an Engineering Manager on the Platform team, you will be at the forefront of Airbyte's mission to make data available and actionable to everyone, everywhere. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to define the product surfaces built on top of the platform, invest in automation, and drive engineering velocity across the company.
What You Will Do
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of Platform Engineers, Fullstack Engineers, and SREs
- Own the reliability and operational health of Airbyte's production systems
- Define the roadmap for Airbyte's platform: infrastructure, CI/CD, deployment automation, observability, internal tooling, and product surfaces
- Invest in and drive adoption of AI-powered workflows for debugging, release validation, infrastructure management, and developer productivity
- Lead incident response, run blameless postmortems, and ensure systemic fixes follow every outage
- Continuously reduce operational toil through automation
- Build leverage: a week-long task this year should take ten minutes next year
- Collaborate with engineering teams to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions
- Develop and maintain technical roadmaps, architectures, and strategies
- Foster a culture of innovation, experimentation, and continuous learning
What We Are Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on platform engineering, infrastructure, or similar fields
- 2+ years of experience in leadership roles, managing high-performing teams
- Strong technical skills in areas such as cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, deployment automation, and observability
- Experience with AI-powered workflows, machine learning, or related fields
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities
- Strong problem-solving skills, with a focus on analytical and creative thinking
- Experience with Agile development methodologies and version control systems
Nice to Have
- Experience with Java or Python programming languages
- Knowledge of containerization using Docker, Kubernetes, or similar technologies
- Familiarity with AI-powered tools and platforms, such as TensorFlow or PyTorch
- Experience with cloud-based infrastructure, such as AWS or GCP
- Certification in engineering management, software engineering, or related fields
