Engineering Manager (Platform - Identity)

About the Role

The Identity Accounts team is responsible for handling authentication, authorization, security settings, and account management for millions of customers across every Coinbase product. As the engineering manager, you will be responsible for leading a team of engineers across three sub-teams: Foundations, Users Platformization, and Settings & Account Management. You will drive roadmap execution in close partnership with your Tech Lead and Product Manager and represent the team to 20+ internal product groups and key partners in Security, Risk, Compliance, and Design.

What You Will Do

• Lead and grow a team of engineers across backend, frontend, and site reliability, building a high-performing team through hiring, coaching, and career development.
• Drive roadmap execution across three focused sub-teams: Foundations (authorization infrastructure), Users Platformization (decomposing the legacy monolith), and Settings & Account Management (Security Settings 2.0, account navigation redesign).
• Own reliability and operational excellence for 8+ mission-critical Tier-0/Tier-1 services, maintaining 99.99% uptime, championing engineering quality, and acting as quarterback during high-severity incidents.
• Represent the team to internal product groups and key partners in Security, Risk, Compliance, and Design, building alignment and ensuring seamless integration support.
• Partner with Product and your Tech Lead to define strategic roadmaps, prioritize initiatives, and translate complex constraints into simple, scalable platform solutions.
• Champion engineering excellence, driving code and design reviews, setting engineering standards, and building every capability to be composable and reusable across product lines.
• Accelerate internal customers by reducing new product team onboarding time to under 2 weeks and delivering excellent APIs, clear documentation, and strong integration support.
• Drive the adoption of best practices and new technologies, staying up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive business outcomes and deliver high-quality solutions.

What We Are Looking For

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on backend, frontend, or site reliability.
• 2+ years of experience in engineering management, with a proven track record of leading high-performing teams.
• Strong technical skills, with expertise in programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++.
• Experience with cloud-based technologies, such as AWS or Google Cloud.
• Strong understanding of security, compliance, and risk management principles.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex problems and develop creative solutions.
• Experience with agile development methodologies, such as Scrum or Kanban.
• Strong understanding of DevOps principles and practices.

• Experience with containerization technologies, such as Docker or Kubernetes.
• Experience with machine learning or artificial intelligence technologies.
• Experience with data analytics or data science technologies.
• Strong understanding of cryptography and blockchain principles.
