About the Role

The Engineering Manager - Security Incident Response role at Datadog is a critical position that leads a team of experienced engineers in building and maintaining the company's security incident response capabilities. This team is part of the Resilience Engineering organization and plays a vital role in ensuring Datadog's systems and data are secure. The goal of this team is to prepare for and efficiently respond to security-related incidents, containing threats as quickly as possible and leveraging incidents as opportunities to learn and improve.

The role of the Engineering Manager is to lead this team of talented engineers, driving Datadog's incident response capabilities to the next level. This involves building tools and automation to streamline efficiency, working with key stakeholders across Datadog to focus efforts in the right areas, and measuring improvement. As part of the leadership team, the Engineering Manager will be active in shaping the organizational strategy and culture.

What You Will Do

  • Lead and mentor a team of experienced incident responders who are passionate about building a culture of security and resilience at Datadog.
  • Help engineers grow to the next level and continuously provide them with opportunities to develop.
  • Serve as a hands-on leader during incidents, making decisions in ambiguous situations and collaborating across several teams to drive towards resolution.
  • Ensure the team is triaging alerts and signals in Datadog Cloud SIEM consistently and to a high level, responding to emerging threats.
  • Partner with the Threat Detection team to tune and calibrate these signals so they deliver value.
  • Build tools, systems, and processes to ensure Datadog is maturing its security incident response capabilities, measuring operational capabilities and communicating with stakeholders.
  • Lead post-incident analysis efforts, ensuring postmortems are blameless and actionable, and capturing follow-up items that repair systematic issues and prevent repeated patterns.
  • Partner with Datadog's product management team, providing feedback on features and championing areas for improvement.
  • Work with other security teams within Datadog to develop strategies and plans to prevent future security incidents.

What We Are Looking For

  • 2-3 years of experience as a people manager or technical leader with strong mentorship skills.
  • Experience in career development, performance management, tracking and optimizing team velocity, OKRs, and hiring candidates into diverse and inclusive organizations.
  • 3-5 years of experience working in incident response teams and large-scale incident response programs, with a focus on security-related incidents and threats.
  • Strong ownership and the ability to work outside your comfort zone to return Datadog to a stable state when failure occurs, even if it falls outside team boundaries.
  • Technical pragmatism and the ability to help the team reason about trade-offs around implementation.
  • Experience with Excel and other productivity tools.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

  • Certification in security or a related field.
