About the Role

The Engineering Manager position at Canonical is a unique opportunity to lead a team of talented Python engineers working on cutting-edge infrastructure-as-code solutions. As a key member of the Solutions Engineering team, you will be responsible for guiding the development of innovative software products that enable companies to run efficient bare-metal operations for high-performance computing, private cloud, data lakes, AI/ML, and analytics. Your team will work closely with the managed infrastructure operations team, which runs many private OpenStack clouds and Kubernetes clusters for customers worldwide, to improve infra-as-code products based on real-world experience.

The role entails demonstrating technical leadership, leveraging a solid background in software development to challenge and grow team members. You will have the opportunity to influence the culture, facilitate technical delivery, and work with your team on direction and execution. What You Will Do

  • Lead and develop a team of Python engineers working remotely in global locations
  • Hire, coach, mentor, provide feedback, and engage in hands-on career development
  • Demonstrate sound engineering principles by directly contributing code yourself
  • Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects
  • Set and manage expectations with other engineering and operations teams
  • Coordinate with management and internal and external stakeholders or customers
  • Advocate for modern, agile software development practices
  • Help develop and evangelize great engineering and organizational practices
  • Grow a healthy, collaborative engineering culture in line with the company values
  • Be an active part of the leadership team and collaborate with other leaders in the organization
  • Travel globally up to 10% of the time for internal and external events

What We Are Looking For

  • Experience in leading and managing remote teams of software engineers
  • Strong background in software development, preferably in Python
  • Knowledge and passion for agile software development principles
  • Experience in cloud computing concepts and technologies
  • Ability to administer Linux servers, including Ubuntu
  • Excellent leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills
