Engineering Manager, SSCS: AI Governance

## About the Role The Engineering Manager, AI Governance role at Gitlab is a unique opportunity to lead a team of engineers building a paid SKU that helps regulated enterprise customers govern GitLab Duo agent activity. This role sits at the center of GitLab's AI and security strategy, requiring a deep understanding of the intersection of AI, compliance, and software supply chain security. As the leader of this team, you will be responsible for building and supporting the engineering team, creating predictable delivery across a multi-phase roadmap, and helping bring visibility, control, and audit evidence into GitLab for customers with strict compliance needs.

The successful candidate will be energized by building teams and products at the same time, especially in areas where AI, compliance, and software supply chain security come together. You will report to the SSCS Senior Engineering Manager and work closely with Product and Design partners to turn a fast-moving market need into a reliable product.

In your first year, you will shape how the team operates, grow the organization, and drive delivery across core areas including the audit event system, policy enforcement capabilities, and governance reporting experiences.

## What You Will Do - Lead the AI Governance engineering team and support its growth as the product and roadmap expand - Own delivery planning and execution across the AI Governance roadmap - Build the team by partnering with Talent Acquisition, running hiring processes, and helping attract backend engineering talent - Partner with Product, Design, and peer engineering leaders to prioritize work, plan capacity, and maintain clear alignment on scope and sequencing - Collaborate with the Duo Agent Platform team and other adjacent teams to deliver systems that work reliably across product boundaries - Develop and maintain a deep understanding of GitLab's AI and security strategy - Create and manage project plans, resource allocation plans, and risk mitigation strategies - Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning within the team - Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including Product, Design, and Customer Success teams

## What We Are Looking For - 5+ years of experience in engineering management, preferably in the AI, compliance, or software supply chain security space - Strong technical background in computer science, engineering, or a related field - Experience with AI and machine learning technologies - Knowledge of software development methodologies, including Agile and Scrum - Excellent leadership and communication skills - Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment - Experience with cloud-based technologies, such as AWS or Google Cloud - Strong understanding of security and compliance principles

## Nice to Have - Experience with DevSecOps tools and practices - Knowledge of containerization technologies, such as Docker - Familiarity with GitLab and its ecosystem - Experience with data analytics and visualization tools
