About the Role
The Engineering Manager role at Supabase is a people, delivery, and technical position that is responsible for leading engineering teams across the company. As an Engineering Manager, you will be working closely with cross-functional teams to drive technical innovation and deliver high-quality solutions. The role is remote, allowing you to work from anywhere, and you will be part of a globally distributed team that values collaboration and open communication.Supabase is a Postgres development platform that provides a complete backend solution, including Database, Auth, Storage, Edge Functions, Realtime, and Vector Search. The company is built by developers for developers and is committed to delivering a platform that is easy to use, scalable, and secure.
As an Engineering Manager at Supabase, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, from developer-facing surfaces to core backend services. You will be responsible for building a healthy, high-trust team culture and driving the technical vision for your team.
What You Will Do
- Build and manage high-performing engineering teams
- Drive technical discussions and decisions
- Manage the team's roadmap and project management
- Handle people admin, including performance management and career development
- Own the hiring plan for your team and act as Hiring Manager
- Partner with Talent Acquisition to source and close strong candidates
- Contribute to headcount planning, org design, and the evolution of engineering leadership
- Manage workflow intake and Slack triage
- Own the team's weekly updates and keep stakeholders aligned
- Organize effort against support tickets and maintain the team's SLO
- Surface risks, dependencies, and tradeoffs early and clearly to leadership
- Train as an Incident Commander and drive coordination, resolution, and post-incident follow-up
What We Are Looking For
- 5+ years of engineering background, with enough depth to be credible with engineers building complex systems
- 3+ years of experience managing remote engineering teams
- Experience with cloud, SaaS, or developer tools companies, with a strong preference for experience with developer tools or databases
- Strong technical skills, with the ability to participate in design discussions and set the bar for engineering quality and best practices
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to build psychological safety and a feedback culture
- Experience with managing remote, globally distributed teams that work asynchronously across disparate time zones
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and practices, with the ability to coach and guide engineers
Nice to Have
- Experience with Postgres or other relational databases
- Familiarity with Supabase or other developer platforms
- Experience with cloud-based technologies, such as AWS or Google Cloud
- Strong understanding of security and compliance principles
