About the Role
The Evacuation Diagram Draftsperson role is a critical position that involves creating compliant evacuation diagrams for Australian client sites. As a key member of the team, the successful candidate will work closely with clients to understand their needs and develop diagrams that meet Australian standards. This role requires a strong understanding of fire safety compliance and the ability to interpret architectural floor plans and annotated sketches.The day-to-day responsibilities of this role will include converting hand-annotated building plans and scanned drawings into compliant evacuation diagrams using supplied templates and Australian-standard guidelines. The ideal candidate will have experience working in high-volume drafting environments and be proficient in drafting tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Visio, or equivalent.
As an independent contractor, the successful candidate will have the flexibility to manage their time and work from home, aligning with Australian business hours for collaboration. What You Will Do
- Convert hand-annotated building plans and scanned drawings into compliant evacuation diagrams
- Apply Australian Standards AS3745 for evacuation signs and diagrams
- Use standardised templates, legends, and symbol libraries
- Ensure correct placement of evacuation routes, emergency exits, fire extinguishers, and assembly areas
- Conduct self-quality checks before submission to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Update diagrams based on building or fire equipment changes
- Maintain strict file naming, version control, and documentation standards
- Adhere to confidentiality and data security protocols at all times
- Support ongoing production workflows and long-term client deliverables
- Collaborate with clients to understand their needs and develop diagrams that meet Australian standards
- Utilize drafting tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Visio, or equivalent to create high-quality diagrams
What We Are Looking For
- Proven background as a Draftsperson, CAD Technician, or Technical Illustrator
- Experience producing evacuation diagrams, fire safety plans, and building layout or compliance drawings
- Strong understanding of Australian fire safety compliance
- Ability to interpret architectural floor plans and annotated sketches
- Experience working in high-volume drafting environments
- Proficiency in drafting tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Visio, or equivalent
- Strong attention to detail and compliance accuracy
