Job Description

## About the Role As an Experienced Electrical Engineering Consultant at Sargent & Lundy, you will be instrumental in driving the success of the company's Consulting group, particularly in the areas of gas generation, renewable energy, battery energy storage, and utility planning/advisory practices. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve a mix of technical expertise, project management, and collaboration with cross-functional teams. You will be working closely with power plant developers, owners, lenders, and investors, providing critical technical support and guidance throughout the project lifecycle.

## What You Will Do - Prepare and review EPC RFP packages and associated technical specifications to ensure they meet the required standards and project needs.

  • Evaluate EPC proposals to assist in the selection of preferred EPC contractors, considering factors such as technical capability, cost, and project timeline.
  • Provide technical support during negotiations of EPC contracts, ensuring that all parties are aligned and that the contract reflects the best interests of the project.
  • Prepare or review specifications for electrical equipment, including main power transformers, switchgear, and other critical components.
  • Review and provide technical commentary on EPC contractor’s electrical engineering design drawing packages and supporting calculations.
  • Develop and review simple and combined cycle electrical system design packages for utility-scale projects.
  • Design and review renewable low-voltage systems, including both DC and AC systems for solar and battery applications.
  • Collaborate on the design of collector substations and interconnecting substation expansions.
  • Engage in gen-tie transmission design activities, ensuring that the electrical systems are properly integrated and functional.
  • Lead or participate in owner’s engineer engagements for utility-scale power generation projects, working closely with clients and stakeholders to deliver projects on time and within budget.
## What We Are Looking For - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical engineering design for utility-scale power and storage projects.
  • Experience as part of an EPC team or in an Owner’s Engineer role is highly valued, especially in the context of power generation projects.
  • Auxiliary power system design experience, particularly in thermal power generation and gas-fired combined cycle projects, is a significant plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Solid interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and guide others when necessary.
  • Experience with modern tools and technologies, including automation and AI, is desirable, with the ability to lead others in leveraging these technologies to drive efficiency and innovation.
## Nice to Have - Minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and AI-enabled engineering workflows.
  • Programming or scripting skills, such as Python or MATLAB, with the ability to automate engineering tasks and review automated outputs.
  • Experience in advanced Excel applications, beyond basic spreadsheet management, to drive data analysis and presentation.
