About the Role
The Facilities Technician role at Optimum is a critical position that ensures the smooth operation of the company's facilities in Kingston. What You Will Do
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs of facilities, including electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, including identifying and repairing faulty equipment
- Conduct regular inspections of facilities to identify potential issues and take proactive measures to prevent them
- Collaborate with other teams to ensure that facilities are safe, efficient, and well-maintained
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to minimize downtime and reduce costs
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, schedules, and inventory
- Assist in the development and implementation of emergency procedures, including evacuation plans and first aid kits
- Perform carpentry, painting, and other general maintenance tasks as required
- Operate and maintain a range of equipment, including power tools, pumps, and generators
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards
What We Are Looking For
- At least 3 years of experience in a related field, including facilities maintenance, electrical, plumbing, or HVAC
- Completed diploma from an accredited institution in a relevant field
- Specialized skill trade in at least one area, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, painting, or carpentry
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures
- Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade
- Record maintenance skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records of work performed
- Ability to read, understand, and follow safety procedures and protocols
- Knowledge of one or more building trades, including electrical, plumbing, or HVAC
Nice to Have
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
- Certification in a relevant trade, including electrical, plumbing, or HVAC
- Experience with energy management systems and sustainability practices
