Job Description

About the Role

The Federal BIM Design Associate role at Olsson is a key position within the Federal Engineering & Design team, focused on delivering mission-critical projects for federal facilities. This includes military bases, VA campuses, and other government installations. The successful candidate will leverage advanced Building Information Modeling (BIM) techniques to perform complex design and drafting assignments, supporting Olsson's Federal Engineering & Design initiatives. This role is critical in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of project standards and specifications, driving innovation and efficiency across all phases of the project lifecycle.

The role entails working closely with engineers and other stakeholders to integrate multidisciplinary design elements within the BIM environment. This collaborative approach is essential for the successful delivery of projects, requiring strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as advanced interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. The Federal BIM Design Associate will also participate in client meetings and contribute to presentations, leveraging BIM visualizations and data to communicate design intent and changes effectively.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and maintain detailed Building Information Models for projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project standards and specifications.
  • Prepare and update 3D models, drawings, and layouts using BIM software, coordinating with project teams to reflect design intent and changes.
  • Assist in clash detection, constructability reviews, drawing standardization, and quality assurance checks to ensure project deliverables meet the required standards.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other stakeholders to integrate multidisciplinary design elements within the BIM environment, promoting a holistic approach to project design.
  • Support the development and implementation of BIM workflows, standards, and best practices across projects, contributing to the continuous improvement of Olsson's design processes.
  • Participate in client meetings and contribute to presentations by leveraging BIM visualizations and data, enhancing communication and collaboration with clients.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff on BIM tools and processes, promoting knowledge sharing and skill development within the team.
  • Implement A/E/C and other client standards into drawing packages, ensuring compliance with regulatory and client requirements.
  • Contribute to the development of project schedules and Resource Loaded Schedules, supporting project planning and resource allocation.
  • Develop and maintain project documentation, including design reports, meeting minutes, and action item lists, to ensure transparency and accountability.
