Job Description

## About the Role As a Field CTO at Gitlab, you will serve as a trusted technical advisor, connecting DevSecOps strategy, AI, security, and compliance goals to real business outcomes. You will work closely with executive stakeholders during the pre-sales process, offering strategic guidance on how Gitlab can support secure software delivery, modernization efforts, and platform adoption across complex environments. Your role will be critical in building relationships with customer leaders, such as Chief Information Security Officers, Chief Security Officers, Chief Technology Officers, and chief security architects.

The Field CTO role operates with direct visibility and influence at the VP and above level, partnering closely with senior leadership internally at Gitlab and externally with the company's largest customers to shape technical strategy and drive customer outcomes. This is an individual contributor role without people management responsibilities, making it ideal for those who enjoy operating at the intersection of technology strategy, customer engagement, and market leadership.

## What You Will Do - Engage with customers in a technical consulting and advisory role during the pre-sales process, providing technical assistance and strategic guidance - Deliver executive-level thought leadership on DevSecOps, security, and compliance for strategic opportunities, including new and growth accounts - Build and maintain relationships with customer leaders, such as Chief Information Security Officers, Chief Security Officers, Chief Technology Officers, and chief security architects - Partner with the marketing team to develop content and support media engagement opportunities that increase awareness of Gitlab - Educate customers on the value of the Gitlab platform and related technologies - Collaborate with sales, marketing, and product teams to drive customer outcomes and technical strategy - Represent Gitlab in a way that reflects the company's values of transparency, collaboration, and results - Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies, applying this knowledge to drive innovation and growth - Develop and deliver technical presentations, demos, and workshops to customers and prospects - Provide input on product roadmap and strategy, ensuring that customer needs are met and exceeded

## What We Are Looking For - 10+ years of experience in a technical role, with a focus on DevSecOps, security, and compliance - Strong understanding of DevSecOps principles, practices, and technologies - Experience working with executive stakeholders, including Chief Information Security Officers, Chief Security Officers, and Chief Technology Officers - Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences - Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with customer leaders - Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines - Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex technical problems and develop creative solutions - Experience working with AI and machine learning technologies, with a strong understanding of their applications in DevSecOps - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field

## Nice to Have - Experience working with Gitlab or similar DevSecOps platforms - Certification in DevSecOps, security, or compliance, such as CISSP or CISM - Experience working in a cloud-based environment, with a strong understanding of cloud security and compliance - Familiarity with agile development methodologies and DevOps practices - Experience working with open-source technologies and communities
