About the Role

The Field CTO, Public Sector at Gitlab is a critical role that serves as a trusted technical advisor for public sector customers and prospects. This position requires building relationships with executive stakeholders, including Chief Information Security Officers, Chief Security Officers, Chief Technology Officers, and chief security architects, to provide strategic guidance on how GitLab can support secure software delivery, modernization efforts, and platform adoption across complex environments. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of DevSecOps, security, and compliance, as well as the ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to non-technical stakeholders.

This role does not include direct people management responsibilities but will require close collaboration with sales, marketing, and product teams.

What You Will Do

  • Engage with customers in a technical consulting and advisory role during the pre-sales process, providing technical assistance and strategic guidance.
  • Deliver executive-level thought leadership on DevSecOps, security, and compliance for strategic public sector opportunities, including new and growth accounts.
  • Build and maintain relationships with customer leaders such as Chief Information Security Officers, Chief Security Officers, Chief Technology Officers, and chief security architects.
  • Partner with the marketing team to develop content and support media engagement opportunities that increase awareness of GitLab in the public sector market.
  • Educate customers on the value of the GitLab platform and related technologies, highlighting how these solutions can support their DevSecOps, security, and compliance goals.
  • Participate in industry events, conferences, and webinars to represent GitLab and contribute to discussions on DevSecOps, security, and compliance best practices.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to identify and pursue new business opportunities, leveraging your technical expertise to demonstrate the value of GitLab's solutions.
  • Develop and deliver technical presentations, whitepapers, and other content to support the sales process and build GitLab's thought leadership in the public sector.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitor activity, applying this knowledge to improve GitLab's offerings and market position.

What We Are Looking For

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a technical advisory or consulting role, preferably in the public sector or a related field.
  • Deep knowledge of DevSecOps principles, security, and compliance, including experience with cloud-based solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with executive-level stakeholders.
  • Experience with AI-powered technologies and their application in DevSecOps and security contexts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex technical issues and develop effective solutions.
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; advanced degrees are preferred.
  • Experience working with public sector organizations, including federal, state, and local government agencies.
  • Familiarity with GitLab's products and services, or similar platforms, is a plus.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with agile development methodologies and version control systems.
  • Knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies, such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks and compliance standards, such as NIST and FedRAMP.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, including AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • A certification in a related field, such as CISSP, CISM, or CEH.
