About the Role
The Financial Aid Counselor plays a vital role in the administration of federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs at Drexel University. As a key member of the financial aid team, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Title IV regulations and providing exceptional customer service to students, parents, and other campus partners. The role requires a deep understanding of financial aid systems, policies, and procedures, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with other offices on campus.The Financial Aid Counselor will work closely with the financial aid management team to develop and implement policies and procedures that support the university's mission and goals. This will involve staying up-to-date with changing regulations and best practices in financial aid, as well as contributing to the development of training programs for staff and students.
As a remote worker, you will be expected to work independently and as part of a team, using digital tools and platforms to communicate and collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders.
What You Will Do
- Learn and comply with current regulations for all federal, state, and university financial aid programs
- Support daily operations centered around the processing of financial aid programs
- Address financial aid incidents received through various venues, including email, phone, and call center
- Participate in internal office committees as determined by the FA Management
- Act as liaison with various university offices, including Drexel Central and the Office of the Bursar
- Recommend and administer policies and procedures for the administration of financial aid programs
- Review and prepare financial aid correspondence, including emails, letters, and presentations
- Give presentations to students, parents, and outside groups on the overall financial aid application process and program eligibility requirements
- Understand and adhere to Drexel University's compliance standards, including the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy
- Other duties as assigned
What We Are Looking For
- Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Minimum of 1 year of financial aid or related experience in higher education
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends during the year
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work with a variety of students and families
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Ability to learn and adapt to new systems and technologies
Nice to Have
- Working knowledge of financial aid systems, including Banner/Ellucian SIS, COD, NSLDS, and PHEAA
- Experience with presentation software, including PowerPoint and Google Slides
- Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software
