About the Role
As a Forward Deployed Engineer at Openai, you will play a critical role in leading end-to-end deployments of AI models within financial services organizations. This includes working closely with customer engineering and domain teams to understand their needs and guide the adoption of AI capabilities. The role is based in NYC and involves a hybrid work model, with up to 50% travel required.The Forward Deployed Engineering team operates at the intersection of customer delivery and core platform development, making this role a unique opportunity to work on both the technical and business sides of AI deployment. You will be responsible for measuring success through production adoption, workflow impact, and feedback-driven changes to product and model roadmaps.
As part of the Openai team, you will work closely with various stakeholders, including Product, Research, Partnerships, GRC, Security, and GTM teams. Your technical expertise and ability to communicate complex ideas clearly will be essential in driving the success of AI deployments.
What You Will Do
- Own technical delivery across multiple deployments from first prototype to stable production
- Build full-stack systems that deliver customer value and sharpen how we learn
- Embed closely with customer teams to understand their needs and guide adoption of AI capabilities
- Scope work, sequence delivery, and remove blockers early
- Make trade-offs between scope, speed, and quality; adjust plans to protect delivery
- Contribute directly to code when progress or clarity depends on it
- Codify working patterns into tools, playbooks, or building blocks that others can use
- Share field feedback that helps Research and Product understand where the models succeed and where they can improve
- Keep teams moving through clarity and follow-through
- Collaborate with customer-facing teams to identify and prioritize deployment opportunities
- Develop and maintain technical documentation for deployments
What We Are Looking For
- 5+ years of engineering or technical deployment experience that includes customer-facing work
- Experience with the financial services industry and/or investment lifecycle
- Strong understanding of GTM and Adjust
- Ability to scope and deliver complex systems in fast-moving or ambiguous environments
- Production-grade coding skills in Python, JavaScript, or comparable stacks
- Experience building or deploying systems powered by LLMs or generative models
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex ideas for engineers, product teams, and customer stakeholders
- Ability to spot risks early and adjust without slowing down
- Experience with Agile development methodologies
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to make fast, sound decisions under pressure

- Experience with cloud-based deployment platforms
- Knowledge of security and compliance frameworks in financial services
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools
