Forward Deployed Engineer - Madrid

## About the Role The Forward Deployed Engineer role at Openai is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of customer delivery and core platform development. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will lead complex end-to-end deployments of frontier models in production alongside Openai's most strategic customers. You will own discovery, technical scoping, system design, build, and production rollout, partnering directly with customer engineering and domain teams. Your success will be measured through production adoption, measurable workflow impact, and eval-driven feedback that changes product and model roadmaps.

The Forward Deployed Engineering team partners with customers to turn research breakthroughs into production systems. You will work closely with Openai's Product, Research, Partnerships, GRC, Security, and GTM teams to ensure seamless integration and deployment of models. This role is based in Madrid, and you will be required to travel up to 50% of the time.

As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will be the primary point of contact for customers and will be responsible for understanding their needs and guiding adoption of the models you build. You will need to be able to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to remove blockers and ensure delivery.

## What You Will Do - Own technical delivery across multiple deployments from first prototype to stable production - Build full-stack systems that deliver customer value and sharpen how we learn - Embed closely with customer teams, understand their needs, and guide adoption of what you build - Scope work, sequence delivery, and remove blockers early - Make trade-offs between scope, speed, and quality; adjust plans to protect delivery - Contribute directly in the code when progress or clarity depends on it - Codify working patterns into tools, playbooks, or building blocks that others can use - Share field feedback that helps Research and Product understand where the models succeed and where they can improve - Keep teams moving through clarity and follow-through - Collaborate with the GTM team to ensure successful model deployment - Work with the Adjust team to integrate models with customer systems - Develop and maintain technical documentation for models and systems

## What We Are Looking For - 5+ years of engineering or technical deployment experience that includes customer-facing work - Experience scoping and delivering complex systems in fast-moving or ambiguous environments - Ability to write and review production-grade code across frontend and backend using Python, JavaScript, or comparable stacks - Experience building or deploying systems powered by LLMs or generative models and understanding how model behavior affects product experience - Strong communication and collaboration skills - Ability to simplify complexity and make fast, sound decisions under pressure - Experience working with GTM and Adjust teams - Knowledge of AI and machine learning principles - Experience working in a remote or hybrid work environment

## Nice to Have - Experience working with cloud-based technologies such as AWS or Azure - Knowledge of containerization using Docker - Experience with agile development methodologies - Familiarity with DevOps tools such as Jenkins or CircleCI - Experience with data analysis and visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI
