About the Role
The Fraud Patterns Analyst position at Stripe is a unique opportunity to join a leading financial infrastructure platform in the fight against online fraud. As a key member of the Risk Operations team, you will be responsible for analyzing complex data sets to identify emerging fraud trends and developing strategies to prevent them. Your work will have a direct impact on Stripe's mission to increase the GDP of the internet and make online commerce more accessible to businesses around the world.The day-to-day responsibilities of this role will involve collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders, including product, engineering, and operations teams, to identify and mitigate risk from complex, distributed transaction fraud attacks. You will also have the opportunity to work with advanced data analysis tools and techniques to stay ahead of fraudsters and protect Stripe's users.

What You Will Do
- Develop and maintain complex fraud rulesets to prevent transaction-level fraud losses
- Conduct advanced data analysis of structured and unstructured data sets to identify emerging fraud trends
- Collaborate with product, risk, and operations teams to proactively identify and mitigate fraud exposure
- Investigate and conduct root cause analysis of complex and distributed fraud attacks
- Deploy remediations to prevent future fraud attacks and minimize negative impacts on Stripe's users
- Respond to incidents involving complex fraud schemes and quickly mitigate exposure to Stripe and its financial partners
- Utilize analytics to identify and implement effective fraud controls and strategies
- Work closely with data science and engineering teams to develop and implement new fraud detection models and tools
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in the fraud prevention space
What We Are Looking For
- A minimum of five years of experience conducting advanced data analysis using SQL, preferably within the fraud space
- Experience writing, maintaining, and analyzing complex fraud rulesets
- Demonstrated success in minimizing fraud losses and impacts on users
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work with complex data sets
- Experience working closely with product teams to implement risk controls and mitigate fraud risk
- A deep understanding of fraud typologies, controls, and the ability to mitigate fraud risk
- Advanced SQL proficiency and experience with data analysis tools and technologies
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
- A passion for fighting fraud and driving innovation in the digital payments space
Nice to Have
- Experience working with machine learning models and algorithms to detect and prevent fraud
- Knowledge of programming languages such as Python or Java
- Experience with data visualization tools and technologies
- Familiarity with cloud-based data storage and analytics platforms
- Certification in fraud prevention or a related field
