Job Description

About the Role

As a Freelance Chatbot Developer at Mindrift, you will be part of the Tendem project, a cutting-edge initiative that combines AI and human expertise to build innovative conversational bots. You will collaborate with a team of specialists to design, build, and refine messaging bots for various platforms, including WhatsApp, Telegram, and Discord. Your primary goal will be to create reliable, user-friendly, and engaging conversational experiences that integrate seamlessly with AI-powered technologies.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work independently, making decisions on conversational flows, dialogue state, and fallback handling. You will also be responsible for integrating bots with backend services, databases, and third-party APIs, ensuring that they can handle webhooks, rate limits, and platform-specific message formats.

What You Will Do

  • Design and build conversational bots for WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, and similar messaging platforms
  • Develop and implement conversational flows, dialogue state, and fallback handling
  • Integrate bots with LLMs (OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar) for natural language responses
  • Connect bots to backend services, databases, CRMs, and third-party APIs
  • Handle webhooks, rate limits, and platform-specific message formats (interactive messages, buttons, media, templates)
  • Evaluate AI-generated bot code and refactor it for correctness, reliability, and graceful error handling
  • Implement logging, monitoring, and recovery so bots stay healthy in production
  • Collaborate with Tendem Agents to ensure bots are reliable, useful, and ready for real users
  • Provide bot engineering expertise, conversational design judgment, and quality control

What We Are Looking For

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in backend, integration, automation, or bot development
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related technical fields
  • Strong foundation in bot development, messaging platform integrations, and building reliable conversational workflows
  • Experience with Python or Node.js for backend bot logic
  • Solid experience with REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth, and async request handling
  • Familiarity with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic) and prompt design for conversational use
  • Understanding of platform-specific limits, message templates, and approval flows
  • Portfolio or examples of bots you've built

Nice to Have

  • Experience with hosting and deployment (Docker, serverless, VPS, or PaaS)
  • Familiarity with relational or NoSQL databases for storing conversation state and user data
  • Knowledge of platform-specific message formats (interactive messages, buttons, media, templates)
  • Experience with automated testing and continuous integration
