About the Role

The Freelance Chatbot Developer role at Mindrift is an exciting opportunity for experienced bot developers to join a team of innovators working on the Tendem project, a hybrid AI and human environment. As a skilled bot developer, you will be responsible for designing, building, and refining messaging bots across WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, and similar platforms. Your expertise will be crucial in creating conversational flows, integrating bots with AI services, and ensuring that these bots are reliable, useful, and ready for real users.

This part-time remote opportunity is ideal for professionals with hands-on experience building messaging bots, working with platform APIs and webhooks, and implementing conversational logic.

What You Will Do

  • Design, build, and refine messaging bots across WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, and similar platforms for use cases such as customer service, appointment booking, order taking, content delivery, moderation, and automated notifications.
  • Develop conversational flows, dialogue state, and fallback handling to ensure smooth user interactions.
  • Integrate bots with LLMs (OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar) for natural language responses where appropriate.
  • Connect bots to backend services, databases, CRMs, and third-party APIs (booking systems, payment, content sources).
  • Handle webhooks, rate limits, and platform-specific message formats (interactive messages, buttons, media, templates).
  • Evaluate AI-generated bot code and refactor it for correctness, reliability, and graceful error handling.
  • Implement logging, monitoring, and recovery mechanisms to ensure bots remain healthy in production.
  • Collaborate with Tendem Agents to provide bot engineering expertise, conversational design judgment, and quality control.

What We Are Looking For

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in backend, integration, automation, or bot development.
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related technical fields.
  • Strong foundation in bot development, messaging platform integrations, and building reliable conversational workflows.
  • Experience with Python or Node.js for backend bot logic.
  • Solid understanding of REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth, and async request handling.
  • Familiarity with relational or NoSQL databases for storing conversation state and user data.
  • Experience with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic) and prompt design for conversational use.
  • Understanding of platform-specific limits, message templates, and approval flows.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with hosting and deployment (Docker, serverless, VPS, or PaaS).
  • Knowledge of additional messaging platforms beyond WhatsApp, Telegram, and Discord.
  • Previous work on projects involving AI and machine learning.
  • Certification in bot development or a related field.
