About the Role
The Freelance Chatbot Developer role at Mindrift is a part-time remote opportunity that involves designing, building, and refining messaging bots across various platforms. As a key member of the Tendem project team, you will collaborate with Tendem Agents to handle repetitive tasks and provide bot engineering expertise, conversational design judgment, and quality control. Your primary goal will be to ensure that bots are reliable, useful, and ready for real users.The Tendem project is a hybrid AI + human environment that connects specialists with AI projects from major tech innovators. The mission of Mindrift is to unlock the potential of Generative AI by tapping into real-world expertise from across the globe. As a Freelance Chatbot Developer, you will play a crucial role in achieving this mission by developing conversational bots that can interact with users in a seamless and efficient manner.
The role entails working independently to design and ship complete bots, with a focus on building reliable conversational workflows. You will be expected to work closely with the Tendem Agents to ensure that bots are integrated with LLMs and backend services, and that they are providing high-quality responses to users.
What You Will Do
- Build bots for WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, and similar messaging platforms using platform-specific APIs and webhooks
- Design and implement conversational flows, dialogue state, and fallback handling to ensure seamless user interactions
- Integrate bots with LLMs for natural language responses, using APIs such as OpenAI or Anthropic
- Connect bots to backend services, databases, CRMs, and third-party APIs for data storage and retrieval
- Handle webhooks, rate limits, and platform-specific message formats to ensure reliable bot performance
- Evaluate AI-generated bot code and refactor it for correctness, reliability, and error handling
- Implement logging, monitoring, and recovery mechanisms to ensure bots stay healthy in production
- Collaborate with Tendem Agents to handle repetitive tasks and provide bot engineering expertise
- Design and maintain production-ready bots, working confidently with APIs, webhooks, and backend services
- Refine AI-assisted output into stable, user-friendly experiences
What We Are Looking For
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in backend, integration, automation, or bot development
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related technical fields
- Strong foundation in bot development, messaging platform integrations, and building reliable conversational workflows
- Experience with Python or Node.js for backend bot logic
- Solid experience with REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth, and async request handling
- Familiarity with relational or NoSQL databases for storing conversation state and user data
- Understanding of platform-specific limits, message templates, and approval flows
- Experience with hosting and deployment using Docker, serverless, VPS, or PaaS
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to bot reliability
- Self-directed work ethic with the ability to design and ship complete bots independently
Nice to Have
- Experience with LLM APIs and prompt design for conversational use
- Familiarity with WhatsApp template messages and approval flows
- Knowledge of Docker, serverless, VPS, or PaaS for hosting and deployment
