About the Role

The French Linguist position at Welocalize is a critical role that involves managing the linguistic aspects of various projects, ensuring that all materials are accurately translated and localized for the French market. This role is integral to the company's mission to provide high-quality localization services to its clients. Day-to-day, the successful candidate will be working closely with project managers, translators, and other linguists to ensure that all projects are completed to the highest standard and within the given timelines.

As part of the Welocalize team, the French Linguist will report to a Squad Lead and will be an integral part of a virtual team. What You Will Do

  • Perform copy-editing tasks on assigned projects or accounts to ensure linguistic and cultural accuracy.
  • Conduct on-demand translation tasks as required, utilizing expertise in French and English.
  • Provide lead support on assigned projects or accounts, including managing project-related queries and ensuring good interaction among team members.
  • Manage and maintain language materials, such as glossaries and style guides, to ensure they are up to date and meet quality standards.
  • Test and qualify new freelancers and vendors as required, to expand the team's capabilities.
  • Develop and train internal linguists and freelancers to meet the needs of the accounts and Welocalize.
  • Interact with clients on linguistic matters, providing expert advice and solutions.
  • Participate in the development of new and improved working processes to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Meet or exceed productivity KPIs set by the Squad Lead.
  • Achieve the goals set for the role, contributing to the overall success of the team.

What We Are Looking For

  • University degree in Translation, Applied Languages, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in translation or localization, with a focus on the French language.
  • Native fluency in French and fluency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Thorough understanding of the localization process and its importance in global communications.
  • Good user experience of standard software such as Windows and Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with standard CAT tools (e.g., XTM, SDL Studio) and issue tracking and query management tools (e.g., JIRA).
  • Ability to learn new localization tools and applications quickly.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to give clear, concise, and constructive feedback.
  • Experience in communicating positively with customers at various levels.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in managing or leading projects, with a focus on linguistic aspects.
  • Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the European market.
  • Certification in translation or localization, such as a Masters in Translation Studies.
  • Experience with training or teaching others, either formally or informally.
  • Familiarity with agile project management methodologies.
