About the Role
As a Frontend Engineer on the Financial Engineering team at OpenAI, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the company's billing platforms and workflows. Your primary focus will be on creating scalable, reusable UI components and patterns that support a wide range of billing use cases across products. You will collaborate closely with backend engineers to deliver end-to-end billing capabilities, ensuring seamless integration and efficient management of billing data for teams like Finance, Sales, Support, and GTM.The Financial Engineering team is responsible for building the frontend platforms that power how OpenAI's products are priced, purchased, and managed at scale. As a key member of this team, you will work closely with Go-To-Market and Finance partners to translate complex commercial requirements into clear, reusable billing experiences. Your expertise in frontend engineering will be instrumental in driving the development of AI-powered features for billing workflows and platform tooling, automating repetitive tasks, surfacing insights, and improving decision-making.
What You Will Do
- Create scalable, reusable UI components and patterns that support a wide range of billing use cases across products
- Partner closely with backend engineers to deliver end-to-end billing capabilities spanning subscriptions, usage-based pricing, and enterprise offerings
- Build tools and surfaces that allow teams like Finance, Sales, Support, and GTM to manage and reason about billing data efficiently
- Create AI-powered features for billing workflows and platform tooling to automate repetitive tasks, surface insights, and improve decision-making
- Help define frontend architecture, standards, and patterns for a shared billing platform used by teams across OpenAI
- Collaborate with Product, Data, Finance, Go-To-Market, and Engineering partners to translate ambiguous requirements into clear, high-quality interfaces
- Develop and maintain production-grade web applications with an emphasis on usability, scalability, and maintainability
- Engage with various partners, particularly those outside of engineering, to ensure alignment and effective communication
- Contribute to the development of new product capabilities and handle scaling challenges
- Participate in code reviews and ensure the highest standards of code quality
What We Are Looking For
- Software engineering experience, with added experience in payments, billing, or monetization seen as a bonus
- Strong frontend engineering experience building and maintaining production-grade web applications
- Ability to engage with various partners, particularly those outside of engineering
- Keen desire to learn and acquire new skills, coupled with a strong ability to impart that knowledge clearly and succinctly to others
- Significant experience in developing (and redeveloping) production systems to launch new product capabilities and to handle scaling challenges
- Deep investment in creating an exceptional user experience, taking pride in crafting products that address customer needs
- Ability to move fast in an environment where things are sometimes loosely defined and may have competing priorities or deadlines
- Experience with GTM and its applications in billing and monetization
- Familiarity with AI-powered tools and technologies
