About the Role

The Frontend Tech Lead position at Treatwell is a unique opportunity to lead the technical direction of the company's frontend development. As a seasoned professional, you will be responsible for guiding the development of Treatwell's web products, which are used by tens of thousands of people across 13 European countries. Your expertise will help shape the future of the beauty and wellness industry, making it more accessible and user-friendly for entrepreneurs and consumers alike.

Treatwell's frontend stack is a mix of legacy and modern technologies, with a gradual migration towards a more modern React and TypeScript architecture. This presents an exciting challenge for the right candidate, who will need to balance the need for innovation with the practical considerations of maintaining and improving existing systems.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the Frontend Guild, creating a space for engineers to share knowledge, surface real problems, and produce outputs that teams can use
  • Set technical direction and maintain quality, defining guardrails and standards that give teams speed and confidence
  • Stay close to architectural and technical decisions across teams, ensuring technical debt and risks are visible and actively managed
  • Drive initiatives that make consistent, measurable progress, defining what 'healthy' looks like for frontend systems
  • Work with Engineering Managers and the Head of Engineering to ensure technical work is prioritized alongside product work
  • Build relationships and grow the people around you, taking the time to understand each team's strengths and weaknesses
  • Actively mentor engineers, helping them grow their technical scope and develop a habit of thinking beyond their immediate team
  • Foster a culture of curiosity, craft, and continuous improvement
  • Bridge engineering and the wider organization, communicating technical trade-offs, risks, and decisions clearly to non-technical partners

What We Are Looking For

  • 10+ years of software development experience, with deep expertise in modern web frontend technologies
  • A track record of operating across teams and codebases, with experience in setting technical direction
  • Knowledge of what it takes to define standards that engineers actually follow
  • Understanding of the importance of relationships in determining the quality of technical decisions
  • Experience with React, TypeScript, and other modern frontend technologies
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to grow and develop engineers
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

Nice to Have

  • Experience with legacy technologies such as Backbone and EJS templates
  • Knowledge of Node/Express and the integration layer between old and new technologies
  • Familiarity with testing frameworks such as Jest and Cypress
  • Experience with Storybook and other frontend build tools
  • Certification in agile methodologies or software development
