About the Role
The Full Stack Engineer position at Openai is a unique opportunity to join a team of innovators who are revolutionizing the way people interact with their financial information. As a key member of the ChatGPT Finances team, you will be responsible for building and scaling the company's financial services platform, leveraging your expertise in full-stack development, AI, and data modeling to create seamless user experiences. The team's mission is to empower users to take control of their financial lives by providing them with personalized insights, real-time data, and actionable recommendations.The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product, design, research, infrastructure, security, and data integration, to design and implement scalable solutions that meet the highest standards of quality, reliability, and security. You will be working closely with the product team to define feature requirements, develop prototypes, and test hypotheses, as well as with the engineering team to ensure seamless integration with existing systems and infrastructure.
As a full-stack engineer at Openai, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, from building polished frontend interfaces to designing and implementing backend services and data models. You will be responsible for ensuring that the platform is highly performant, scalable, and secure, with a strong focus on user experience and product craftsmanship.
What You Will Do
- Own full-stack product features from user experience and frontend implementation through backend services, data models, deployment, and observability
- Build polished, accessible, and performant interfaces for account connection, dashboards, insights, and conversational workflows
- Design APIs and backend systems that safely ingest, normalize, and serve financial data
- Build resilient integrations that handle synchronization, data freshness, partial failures, permissions, and user consent
- Bring new AI capabilities into production while prioritizing grounding, accuracy, transparency, and user control
- Establish architecture, performance standards, testing practices, and operational safeguards for a fast-growing product area
- Debug and improve complex behavior across client, server, infrastructure, and external integrations
- Use qualitative feedback, product metrics, and experiments to improve user outcomes without compromising clarity or trust
- Collaborate across disciplines to turn ambiguous product opportunities into simple, reliable experiences
- Participate in code reviews, ensuring that the codebase is maintainable, efficient, and aligns with the company's engineering standards
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in software development, AI, and data science
What We Are Looking For
- Experience building and shipping full-stack consumer products in production
- Strong proficiency in modern frontend and backend technologies, such as React, Node.js, Python, or comparable technologies
- Deep understanding of API design, data modeling, system reliability, and the tradeoffs involved in evolving production systems
- Excellent product judgment, with the ability to take a feature from a rough idea to a shipped, measurable outcome
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with experience working in cross-functional teams
- Passion for product craftsmanship, performance, accessibility, and details that affect the user experience
- Experience with AI-native interfaces and new ways to make complex personal information easier to understand
- Strong understanding of privacy, security, reliability, and user trust when working with sensitive data
- Experience with fintech, personal finance, or related domains
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
Nice to Have
- Experience with machine learning, natural language processing, or computer vision
- Knowledge of cloud-based infrastructure, such as AWS or Google Cloud
- Experience with containerization using Docker and Kubernetes
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and version control systems like Git
