About the Role
The City of Hamilton, Bermuda, is seeking a highly skilled Gardener to join its team, responsible for maintaining the beauty and greenery of the city's parks, open spaces, roundabouts, and streets. This role is crucial in enhancing the physical environment for the enjoyment of residents, businesses, and the general public. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Parks Manager and Foreman, adhering to established policies and procedures. The Parks Department is committed to developing and maintaining public spaces, and the Gardener will play a key role in achieving this objective.As part of the Parks Department, the Gardener will be part of a team dedicated to providing exceptional services to the community. The team's efforts focus on creating a safe, clean, and vibrant environment, which is essential for the well-being and prosperity of the city's residents and visitors. The Gardener will have the opportunity to work on various projects, from maintaining parks and gardens to assisting with special events and initiatives.

What You Will Do
- Maintain parks, open spaces, roundabouts, and streets to enhance their physical beauty and greenery
- Plant, prune, and nurture trees, flowers, and other plants to ensure their health and appearance
- Operate and maintain equipment, such as lawn mowers, trimmers, and pruning saws, to perform horticultural tasks
- Apply herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers as needed, following safety protocols and guidelines
- Assist with the installation and maintenance of irrigation systems to ensure efficient water use
- Collaborate with other team members to achieve departmental objectives and provide excellent customer service
- Respond to customer inquiries and concerns in a courteous and professional manner
- Participate in training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge in horticulture and landscaping
- Perform other duties as required to support the effective operation of the Parks Department
What We Are Looking For
- Bermuda Secondary School Certificate or equivalent
- A minimum of 2 years' experience in horticulture, landscaping, or a related field
- Proficient knowledge of materials, tools, herbicides, pesticides, and equipment used in parks maintenance and landscaping
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and email
- Ability to interact with internal and external customers in a courteous and polite manner
- Physical fitness to perform manual labor in a fast-paced outdoor environment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Familiarity with safety protocols and guidelines for equipment operation and chemical application
Nice to Have
- Experience with irrigation system installation and maintenance
- Knowledge of environmental sustainability practices and green initiatives
- Certification in horticulture, landscaping, or a related field
- Experience with customer service and community engagement
